Based on your analogy, it seems like every network-level security company would want more viruses to sell their products and cloud security services. Regarding leftover junk, there will always be some remnants, including in the registry. When was the last time you installed something that didn't leave anything behind? Suggesting otherwise is unrealistic. Some people, especially those who aren't tech-savvy or can't afford network-level security, still need or want extra protection will buy it. Windows never had a reputation for security, unless we are talking about Apple.
Especially the borders. I sleep naked with my doors wide open. Both of them. House door and barn door.

Thank you very much for a solid deal. It never hurts to have an additional line of defense, and the firewall, which is very customizable and easy to manage, is very convenient.

I know right. Why people or any company even bothers using them. Like everything is already exposed and why have security at all? Matter of fact, let's keep everything open while we are at it.
Your main defense should be at the network level.

If your computer is compromised, the only trusted and 100% way of cleaning it is by reformatting and reinstalling your computer.

There is native protection of modern OS these days. This is what regular patches/updates do. Native MS Windows anti-virus should be more effective because MS knows Windows more than Norton does. Windows main concern is to uphold their reputation of being a safe OS so people will trust and use it while Norton's main goal is, there should be more viruses/malwares so people will buy our product.

Anti-virus themselves are the virus. Have you ever tried uninstalling them? It is almost impossible to remove them once installed. They will always leave something or modify your registry etc.

Any cheaper substitutes ? Norton has gotten to bloated over the years always trying to sell stuff, lifelock, device driver updates etc. Wondering if its even needed any more. Also they don't have an app that loads on Win 11 with Snapdragon (Arm) might just remove it all together when my subscription ends.

Bro, stop giving security advice. I hope that's not your field of work. This thing can help people with some things. Nowadays, btw, reformatting a computer might not be enough.

Norton is one of the worst companies in tech. The only thing you're buying here is a ticket to the class action lawsuit against their billing practices.

Can I easily turn off auto-renewal? I assume so but will use a low denomination visa gift card if not.

Yes you can. I have bought these Norton deals from Newegg many times and never had a problem.
