I'd recommend a high endurance drive for in a car, if that's your goal. In my Model S I've been using a high endurance data storage and it has survived for a while in high heat situations. Not worth cheaping out on it

That's true, it's just that that specific sandisk has reports of failing extremely early compared to other SSDs

Not sure if anyone is interested but "geek squad refurbished" drives from Best Buy are just returns, I got one 1TB T7 for $53 last year and another one for $56 a few weeks ago, prices always fluctuate and because of Prime Day it's the same price as New - so you'd have to wait it out. It had zero data written to it.

Also got a Samsung 970 Evo Plus NVMe with zero data written to it and only 2 power cycles at $26. I know these aren't labeled new, but just throwing the info out there.
How do you test for power cycles and written data tests?

There's a free program for Windows called, CrystalDiskInfo.

On macOS/Linux, via the terminal using Brew (Homebrew) or something similar install smartctl, then run the command:
Code:
smartctl -a /dev/nvme0n1
Your drive name might be something else, so check and replace "nvem0n1" by typing in the terminal
Code:
diskutil list
Otherwise an simpler approach for macOS would be to install Smartmontools

Regular T7 has heat issues. The shield series seems to be better.
When you say "heat issues" does that just mean it gets hot? Or does that mean you lost your data while simultaneously starting a forest fire?

The Seagate HDD is 2tb and $10 less than this deal. You'll want to check the specifications for compatibility. I like it.
