For the price, this one. I have owned (and still own) both and you can't go wrong with either one. I prefer my Qnap TS-873a with ZFS for my VMware home lab datastore because of the filesystem features, but other than that I wouldn't be too concerned with either brand. I will say that I prefer the Qnap interface to the Synology one, but I'm also an IT guy by trade and I'm used to working on higher end SAN products. The Synology interface is more simple, I think, but the Qnap one makes more sense to me when I'm setting things up.

I know this deal has expired but I just wanted to reply for a future person considering qnap nas. I have the 464. It's been great and mine has served as a Plex server. I think what I really appreciate over just building out a cheap refurb dell or nuc that is so often recommended is that it is just a small neat and quiet package on a table that I hardly need to think about or maintain. I just go and glance to make sure a drive isn't dead every so often, make a back up here and there, and I update software whenever it emails me there is new firmware. It's pretty hands off. The os is much easier that people make it out to be online. Fwiw mine is extremely quiet with seagate ironwolf drives, my wife works from home a few feet away from it and tells me she never notices hearing it. I'm personally shopping for a second one.
