Price is good but that might be because of boilergate issue with the boiler coating flaking off. https://coffeeblog.co.uk/boilerga...-problems/

I confirmed today, Friday, July 19, 2024 via Whole Latte Love chat that this specific Gold Gaggia does in fact have the coating that is part of #boilergate.

I have the white version of this for about a year, whole latte puts them on sale for 399 several times a year. It's a solid machine that makes great coffee. I've had no issues with the boiler but even if you do, wholelatte will send you a new unlined boiler.

If you like to tinker, I turned mine into a Gaggiuino for another $150 and it is awesome.

Newbie here; i know this gaggia and the bambino are considered the best for entry/mid-level machines, but whats the best entry/mid-level grinder to go with them?

thanks vm
DF54, Eureka Mignon Crono/Filtro, Encore ESP, all for about 200 bucks and are reasonable entry level for grinders.

I would probably get Bambino over Gaggia given Boilersgate and truthfully Gaggia is not as ready out of the box as Bambino, and realistically you need get a PID mod to get stable temperature, which is another 50-100 bucks of modding purchase give or take

100 percent this. Bambino works great out of box. Gaggia is great if you tinker

What are the better brands to buy?
Just get a breville bambino. Maybe not "better" since they're focused on things a bit differently, but it's the other go to option in this price range. I have the gaggia and it's incredible, but given the choice today I'd probably get the bambino plus.

Yup. Literally the suggestion I just made.

I'd add the fellow Opus to the grinder list. It's super nice to use and QUIET if say you have a spouse that works midnights. Agree it's not as good as the other options for just espresso tho.

this. the bambino is so convenient and easy to use, it's hard for me to imagine waiting for a boiler to heat up now.

Nice link, thanks for posting it. I found this comment on the article saying colored models should include the unlined boiler.

Comment from article:
FYI, I contacted Gaggia North America about how one might buy a machine without the coating, either old stock 2019 model or new stock Evo model made after the coating had been (so I hear) abandoned. (nothing to do with flakes, I just don't use food products with fluoropolymer coatings). I thought others might find their reply useful, from June 27 2024:

"Any of the color versions of the EVO purchased through either Gaggia North America or Whole Latte Love (and Whole Latte Love Canada) will have an unlined boiler. The Stainless Steel version will likely still have the coated boiler. "
I'll note, I bought this same exact model Terry weeks ago from WLL on Amazon and haven't had any flaking issues. I've been testing every day since getting it and have seen nothing.
