Have the 8 GB RAM, and turning on the "reduce animations" (Settings -> Accessibility -> Vision enhancements -> Reduce animations (toggle on) made a HUGE difference and is a game changer! Feels much faster and snappier in response. Initially had animations reduced to 0.5x under the developer option, and still felt jittery at times. But the reduce animation makes this feel like a $500+ tablet!

Even the fastest SD cards are orders of magnitude too slow to be anything close to system memory

Placed my order a day or so ago, it went through just fine, was about $170 after tax (no EDU discount). Said it was going to be delievered sometime today, but then I just got an email from Paypal that Samsung refunded me. Then I got an email from Samsung saying me return was completed?

Update:

If your order is cancelled, don't bother calling Samsung support.

Agent 1: (Provided personal info and explaining I'm calling because my order was cancelled without any reason provided or communication from Samsung) We did not cancel your order, perhaps you accidentally clicked the button for a return?

Me: No, I did not do that. (We go back and forth a few more times without any progress). Can I talk to a manager?

Agent 1: They'll just tell you the same thing I did (that we didn't cancel it).

Me: That's fine, I'd like to hear that from a manager.

Agent 1: Okay, let me put you on hold while I find one.

(On hold. New agent picks up)

Agent 2: Hi how can I help you?

Me: Are you a manager?

Agent 2: No

Me: The person I just spoke to said they would get me a manager. I'd like one now please.

Agent 2: What's your (asks for personal info again, which I provide. I explain situation again).

(Put on hold)

Supervisor 1: How can I help you? I see you placed an order recently. Have you tried contacting best buy?

Me: I explain the situation again.

Supervisor 1: I'm sorry you have the wrong department.

Me: Then transfer me to the right one?

(Put on hold)

I'm currently on hold for this 2nd supervisor. I've now been on the phone for 45min. Not including the first time I called their customer service, trying to navigate the robot menu to get an Agent.

Update 2:

I just checked and like someone else mentioned, the discount is still showing on the Samsung Shop app. I was able to place a new order but this time chose to pick it up at a local Best Buy. Waiting for email to let me know I can swing by and get it. Here's hoping they have them in stock and I won't get cancelled again. (Still on hold btw).

With the amount of time you spent to write out all that dialogue, you could have just created a new account and purchased it at $131.74 with the EDU discount (which is cheaper than what you had initially paid, so in hindsight it was for your benefit to rebuy with better discount). You can even score a better deal through the iPad Air Gen 1 trade-in that multiple people have posted about.

I mean at this point with the time I spent I should have just paid full price and skipped all this, but when someone cancel's my order w/o telling me why I don't mind spending time on the phone to speak my mind.

I don't have an EDU email so not sure how I'd get the EDU discount by making a Samsung account. Not sure why you are assuming I have an item to trade in?

Fair enough. Some times when it gets to the point which customer support agents have no idea or how to help, it's just much faster to try on an alternate account. If that gets cancelled too, then there is something worth trying to figure what's causing the cancellation.

You don't need an EDU email. At the top where it says, "Get exclusive, extra savings with Samsung Offer Programs," clicking on that will give you an option to select and you can just click "Education Offers." That will give you the additional 15% discount.

With regard to an item to trade in, if you go back to page 31 at the bottom, va4883 commented this:

I just got it for $35 after trade in ipad Air 1st Gen. The trick is to add $113 iPad Air 1st Gen trade in inside the website and add it to the cart and then if you go to the shop app , it should be in your cart and you will get both trade in and app discount. The price after after trade in and discount should be $35.69
I already had an old iPad Air in home but even if you buy it from ebay it's around $30-$40 and make the A9+ to around $70

Thank you for following up and explaining in more detail. I was in a bit of a mood from being on the phone earlier so I misread your first comment as a criticism, my fault. I read up on what you mentioned and have been able to successfully cancel my pickup order and placed a new one for much less using the trade in and edu methods you mentioned. Thank you.

You're welcome! Glad to hear that you were able to re-order for much less using the trade-in! Now comes the iPad hunting! They've been selling pretty well on eBay lately and prices have gone up a bit, most likely due to others taking advantage of this offer. Good luck finding one in good tradeable condition!

I was able to score one and apply EDU discount. BestBuy delivered it and with the shipping and taxes it cost me $146, not bad.

I just picked up mine from best buy for $143 after tax. Got it set up and I'm very impressed with the speed and fluidity of this tablet. Using split screen works really well and I like that I can do it with any app

Damn.. I am monitoring this since initially posted for $154. Your comment finally made me bite the bullet. But most of the ebay iPad is $50 or more.. So will see.

Yes, but you have to turn on 'cast to Chromecast devices' in the Labs settings section of SmartView. Works great to Chromecast devices after that.
