I bought this model last night at the same price. It shipped 10 hours ago and will arrive on Friday, which is pretty fast.
Here's some info that helped me decide:
From my search on SD, the only better deal before from Dell was the same configuration but with a i7-13650HX CPU, which was $850 with a 10% discount. This means it was about 90% of $150 cheaper than this one. I plan to use this laptop mainly for productivity and occasional gaming. Comparing the CPU specs, the difference is significant. Although daily tasks don't need such strong multi-core performance, the CPU is not upgradeable, so I think it's important to get a good one once and for all for productivity. Also, the actual price gap isn't as high as 90% of $150, you know what I mean.
As for the graphics card, the general consensus is that the 4050 and 4060 are sufficient, while the 4080 and 4090 are for high-end use. The 4070 is in an awkward position. Since I only play games occasionally, the 4060 is just right for me.
I also found out that this model has a second hard drive slot, so you can expand the storage. The 1TB system drive is also generally enough. This model comes with a single RAM, so upgrading the RAM is also possible.
Regarding color, I watched many review videos, and the white one does look better than the black one. But after some thought, I chose the black one because I'll be using it as a productivity tool. I'll be spending many nights working in front of the screen, and the white body reflects more light from the screen, which can be distracting. Of course, this might be overthinking. If you care more about the looks, white definitely looks better than black.
You can also upgrade to a mechanical keyboard for an additional $50. It's definitely worth the upgrade, but after some thought, I decided to stick with the current keyboard. The same reason applies – I'll be using this mainly for productivity, and I don't want the mechanical keyboard noise to distract me while I'm focused on typing. If you're using this laptop mainly for gaming and want the best performance, then a mechanical keyboard is a better choice.
I also compared Dell's G16, Alienware m16, and x16. I've been using the Alienware m15 series since 2017. I still miss my first m15 with a 4K touchscreen – it was perfect for work, with super sharp text, and occasional gaming with reduced resolution. My next m15 was disappointing, though, because when the x15 came out, the m15 was downgraded in some aspects to highlight the x15's advantages. For example, the touchpad backlight was removed, and metal parts were replaced with plastic. Overall, the m series positioning became awkward. And with the recent redesign making the m series look quite ugly, I thought it's either go for the x series or settle for the G16 regardless of looks. The previous generation x16 had discounts a few months ago but has been out of stock since, and the discount likely won't return. The new x16 will hold its price for a while, and spending several hundred more dollars just for the look doesn't seem worth it. I've outgrown the phase of caring about cool RGB lighting on a laptop. Seeing that the x16 won't drop in price anytime soon, I decided on the G16 to save money.
I initially hesitated to buy the G series because its lower class than Alienware might mean compromises. My main concerns were noise, screen quality, and keyboard feel. Reviews showed that the G16 has excellent noise control and thermal management. The screen quality is similar to the m16 and x16, which isn't great, but it's acceptable. I haven't checked the keyboard feel yet, but I hope it's good. So, the G16 meets my main criteria, and I decided to save some money. However, the G16 does lack in some areas. For example, it doesn't have Windows Hello and the models below 4060 lack Thunderbolt ports, and no PD fast charging. These might be essential for some people, but since I'm using it at home, it's not a big issue for me, so I can live with it.
Finally, I always wanted a gaming laptop with a 4K screen for super sharp text while working. But since current GPUs can't handle 4K gaming well, 4K laptops are rare and very expensive. So, I had to settle for a 2.5K screen, which should be good enough.
In conclusion, I think this is a great productivity tool that also offers adequate entertainment. If you're a hardcore gamer, I recommend upgrading to a mechanical keyboard. If you care a lot about the looks, go for the white color – same price.
No, it is only with the K and KF series chips. The laptops are generally with H or HX

One thing I just don't understand is G16 only allows us to upgrade to 32GB of RAM instead of 64GB.
I saw the model you mentioned yesterday too, and indeed, both are very good deals. I hesitated for a while but ended up choosing the cheaper one because I don't play games that often.
Edit: i was wrong. I think the deal i saw yesterday have 16GB RAM. So the one you purchased should be a better deal then the one i saw yesterday.
I hope you went for the one with the mechanical keyboard. Yesterday, I saw that the black one has a membrane keyboard, while the white one has a mechanical keyboard, and both are priced the same. Although I personally lean towards the membrane keyboard, the one with the mechanical keyboard clearly offers better value for money.
As for memory, I remember seeing a data point where someone successfully upgraded it to 64GB, but I might be mistaken.
Supply chains, which were constrained during covid and then experienced a post covid hangover between 2023 and now, are starting to swing the other way. Electronics are going to start riding in cost between now and end of the year and beyond. If youve been looking around for a while for a gaming laptop, I suggest you lock one in soon

The Intel i9-13900hx supports up to 192GB of RAM, so 64GB(or even 96GB) is no problem.

I purchased a similar laptop for $1170 with 32GB of RAM and 4070 card. If you don't play video game that much, it doesn't make much difference.

64GB is what Dell will install for you. You can upgrade to more than that if you like, you're only limited by the CPU and the number of RAM slots.
