I somehow got this through the Ace hardware deal about a month ago- buy a battery/charger kit for $149 get a free tool, so I chose this. I think they corrected it soon after. I have already changed my two front wheel hubs on a 2004 Yukon with this so it has more than paid for itself. Excellent tool.

I love how the first Amazon review is a guy saying he uses it for the lug nuts on his SUV. I guess he'll learn pretty quick why you really don't want to do that.

Anyone actually using the full 1750 ft-lbs (or close) more than once a year - what are you using it for? I imagine 95% of people buying this do not need anywhere near this much power. Maybe there are a handful of us on SD who maintain massive mining equipment or bridges or something as a hobby?

Can you tell us why it's a bad idea to unscrew lugnuts with this?

It takes the hammering to get a lug nut off. It will mar the lug nuts if you care about the sorts of things. The flip side it you will get the lug nuts loose even a wheel is in the air.

Yeah... Amazon raised the price to $360ish for three before lowering it to $280. It has been this price for a while now. I have this saved in my wishlist. Also, popular Amazon price tracking site...

It might also be a bad idea to try to tighten the lugnuts with a beast like this.

Over torquing is a thing and can cause big problems.

I have a cheap chinese torque wrench I use for on/offing lugnuts and it has no problem with over torquing, lol.

I got the DCF891B, which was a slick deal back in April for $170. This one here has double the breaking power. Mine can break lug nuts with ease. So be sure you need all the power this one offers.

These have a setting which tightens it down with low ft-lbs. So they work well putting on lug nuts, which you can then hit with a torque wrench.

The "low" setting on this is still too much for lug nuts on any normal vehicle. It will destroy your bolts, sockets and wrists. It also weighs a ton and is large and unwieldy to use, and if you have any sense you'll find yourself reaching for your smaller impacts every single time. The idea of "too much power" is a pretty new one but using this thing to work on normal vehicles is like putting a hex key in a Hole Hawg to assemble Ikea furniture. If you don't own a farm, large bridge, heavy machinery, aircraft carrier etc then this is probably not the tool for you.

Found a posted manual for the 3/4" model (DCF964) on Manualslib. Stated max breakaway torque is 1900 ft-lbs, and the unit will weigh 8.14 lbs.

Don't be an idiot - I said I changed the wheel hubs. That's a lot more involved than simply removing the lug nuts. And when you buy the new hub at Napa it comes with the new hardware so you aren't putting the old bolts on. Torque to spec and your set.

BTW if you're so smart, how come every tire shop AND NASCAR et al use these tools for changing out tires every day all day and don't have issue 'marring' their lugs?

Don't listen to this guy - clearly too much of a keyboard warrior.
