Does it support Linksys Velop Mesh technology?
No. This model does not support Linksys Mesh; it is a standalone router only.

Can I use the Linksys app with the Linksys MX4300 (LN1301)?
No. This router does not support Linksys cloud services; therefore, the Linksys app is not supported.
Looks like someone was able to get OpenWRT [openwrt.org] working on this router model.
Ok, so I got mine and fiddled with it. First, this is a very easy router to unbrick so go ahead and fiddle with the firmware all you want. Unfortunately I was unsuccessful in installing the linksys mx4200v1 firmware as well as installing openwrt for mx4200v1. On openwrt the light turned purple but I couldn't ssh into the router. I guess it can't be hacked into a mesh. Went ahead and purchased the slickdeal mx8000 refurbished that was just posted and will be returning these. Good luck to all and please do post on any different outcomes. Obviously $25 a node for a 4.2gbps Wi-Fi 6 mesh would be a spectacular bargain.

Has anyone received theirs yet?
Mine has been stuck in "preparing for shipping" for days.

It would be great to hear from someone who actually has this router on hand and can comment on whether it can be used for OpenWRT, or share their experiences with it so far.

Mine shipped yesterday - will be here by the end of the week I suppose. I'll try flashing OpenWRT. If it doesn't work I'll return it tbh, I already have an Eero that works fine, but I wanted to set up another network with VPN.

I got two of the MX8000 2-pack in June (so four MX4200v1). I was planning to try them on the stock firmware, but I couldn't hold my nose and use the stock firwmare, it was that bad. OpenWRT seems to work fine. Setup from a snapshot isn't for the faint of heart (need to ssh in to install luci, etc), and I was hoping to use DAWN to help with roaming, but some of my devices hate it, and other devices hate 802.11k. But I still got 802.11r, wifi 6, and dual channel radios for 5ghz; which seems to have improved my network from 4x unbranded tm-ac1900s running asuswrt.
Wow we have same wifi hardware lol. Just got mine today, flashing openwrt and setting it as ap. Glad it's an upgrade, was bit worried.

Would also love to know if you succeeded,
Could you point us to the instructions that worked best (or tips) to get it working? Thanks

Just curious if you received and tested this out.

Or if anyone actually bought this and tested flashing with wrt, or relevant features people are speculating on
Nope, shipped but have yet to receive it yet. We have a couple users above working on flashing firmwares so stay tuned

I've been running a Netgear R7000 on Tomato as my main wired router with the wireless turned off. I am also using a Wi-Fi 5 tri-band TP-Link as an access point. Even though I have been interested in upgrading the wifi system for may years now, I still cannot think of any reasons. Everything runs fine and stable and I have never needed to reboot anything at all, so even for $25, it doesn't seem worth it...

Sigh...

I know this thread is not visible on the front page anymore and is probably going to be buried but please keep us updated on the firmware situation.

Honestly thank you very much, I really hope it can be flashed

Would this be an upgrade from a Netgear Nighthawk X4S R7800?

is it worth the hassle to change?

Price looks good, but I'm fairly satisfied with the netgear and have my smart hub / smart home setup and mac filtering all established.

Years ago, I was deep into router comparisons and (thought I) deeply understood specs, benefits, drawbacks, but alas, I haven't stayed in the loop and have a knowledge gap
I upgraded from a r7800 to an Asus ac11000 pro and made a mesh network with it. Far better system than this, but a lot more money.

Does it matter if it only has 2.4 ghz freq, and no 5ghz (to use as main router) . I always assumed 5ghz supported faster speeds.
