I have received the router and I would like to share what I know to give some insights for some of us. First of all, I don't own a mesh system or know anything much about a mesh system.
1) Model: Linksys MX4301-UN Homewrk For Business 1PK, SKU: LN1301, https://store.linksys.com/support...sku=MX4301 [linksys.com]
2) To login, username: admin (default) password: the given wifi password that came with the router
3) Wireless Setting: When changing different name for 2.4ghz and 5ghz, it will have a pop up stating that "Mesh Wifi combines bands to act as one network......"
4) In the wireless setting, the Wifi Mode is selected: Mixed....
To make changes, I have clicked "CA" in the lower right hand corner in order for the selection to show up.
I do not see an AX mode selection at all.
5) Advance Wifi Advanced: Client Steering and Node Steering.
Hopefully, someone who has received the router could tell us if this is a mesh router.

Openwrt is probably the way to go but seeing how robust it is stock would be interesting. Looks to be your standard linksys firmware with CA settings

The stock MX4200 firmwares are unlikely to work as the OpenWRT work for LN1301 has revealed that although the PCB assembly looks the same as the MX4200v1 PCB, the RAM and flash are actually bigger. The LN1301 seems to have 1 GB flash and 2GB RAM which is more than even the MX5300.
You may want to try that (please report back if you do).
OpenWRT support for LN1301 will likely arrive soon as multiple people in the OpenWRT thread for the MX4200 are working on making it work [openwrt.org]. OpenWRT will free you of the limitations of the stock FW. E.g. USB works, you can do mesh, make VLANs, etc.
Good news is also that you can still get the LN1301 and it's even cheaper now at $20.
At this price, if the specs are right and OpenWRT works out, this is a screaming deal.
