R rating is referring to insulation factor. Not a review rating. Nothing mentioned about stars.
From the description
This is rated R2.7
R-Value standard ASTM F3340-18: 2.7

The R-Value expresses the thermal performance and resistance of the mattress. The higher the R-Value, the more the mattress insulates you from the cold ground. R-value from 0 to 1.9 mattress designed for use in the warm season (summer) only from 2 to 3 mattress designed for use in 2 or 3 seasons (spring/summer/autumn) from 3 to 4:4 season mattress, winter use possible higher than 4.5 winter use and extreme conditions.

Like any state other than Cali would charge you to recycle something you are buying brand new. Come on.

I mean gun to my head I would've guessed California as well but guessing like that just spreads bias in a context (politics) where there is already too much.

This is pretty heavy for its R-value, so it wouldn't make too much sense for backpacking. It also doesn't pack down very small, so again, not great for backpacking. I would imagine that most people would find this not as comfortable for car camping as other options. It's a low price, but this is something you're going to replace later. You might as well just get the backpacking pad or the more comfortable air mattress/cot for car camping.

Hidden cost of recycling fee of $10.50.
Less than a 1% chance this product is actually recyclable anywhere in the USA, and 10.50 is basically a full dumpster of trash in Indiana. California might as well just have a 100% sales tax on hard goods that aren't biodegradable.

Not saying the county doesn't need to shift, especially to uniform food and product packaging standards....that would truly reduce waste. Not sure how the 10.50 tax on a 1lb non-recyclable laminated plastic product is the answer.

It's full of open cell foam with a pattern of cutouts. The foam provides the lift, structure, and insulation.

You basically squeeze the air out as you roll it up tight and then twist the valve cap closed. Then when you want to unroll and inflate it, you open the valve and the foam structure expands, drawing air in.

That doesn't sound like a firm mattress after inflation. Maybe one had to blow just a little bit to make it firmer.
