Pasta cooking is definitely possible, for instance.
But if you're strictly about rice, get the smaller model. The bigger models are less consistent. Better to make two perfect batches than one big crappy batch.

Earlier this year bought their new $700 flagship from Kohls for $400 and I expect it to last just as long. Zero rice quality improvements honestly, just a more modern appearance.
The USA models are like 5 years behind their Japanese models. Their Japanese models uses multiple induction coils to spin the rice around that simulates wood cooking. Probably does nothing but it's cool nonetheless.
