The heck? If you get something half of 2x... it's the same price.

I don't think this is a stellar deal... I think SD (and comments) have increasingly gone downhill over the years

Who can pays this much when u can get flights from lax to Japan for about $500, you don't need to be bougie and pay almost 3x economy prices, I rather save the money and indulge on Kobe steak

People who want more leg room and a more comfortable seat. Not everyone is a short king.

Saw this price yesterday morning. It is lower by $80 than the cheapest I've seen on AA lately. I think it's a great deal for what it is.

FYI, JAL to NRT on 787s is 2-4-2 configuration with much more leg room and wider seats in regular economy than american carriers. It's sometimes on sale for 8xx. Something to consider if you don't want a third party.
I just came back from Japan last week. I flew JAL into Osaka and flew out of Haneda. The 787 with 2-4-2 configuration is actually quite nice. I'm average height/weight and had plenty of room. The meals were decent as well… not as good as Asiana but at least they give you a single serving of Haagen-daz.

Having said this, if it was just the wife and I going to Japan again, I would probably spend the extra money for premium economy if tickets were in the $1,500 range. I wouldn't spend it with AA though. The last I remember, their planes are a little tight to begin with. I wouldn't be surprised if premium economy was similar to economy on JAL

It doesn't and that user is exaggerating. Once you factor in seat selection, checked bags and meals, expecting to pay similar fares as full-service flights.
Zipair is more around $600-700 range for LAX-NRT for a basic fare (seat and light carry-on, no meal). There were a few time when Zipair dropped their fares to $400ish. For those who travel light, zip air is a reasonably good option.
Bring your on water and sandwiches or protein bars, and enter the plane dead last (if you don't like your auto seat assignment), that way you can choose literally any remaining empty seat. We are talking 3-4 times lower price here, and no specific dates whatsoever for the same direct flights, so it's not 'exaggeration', you just gotta think out of the box =)

I flew on American Airlines from SFO to HND on economy class and it was one of the worst flights I've ever been on. I expected on an international flight that the quality of the food would be better but it was awful. Bad inflight entertainment too. I think I was most pissed that I had to pay for check-in luggage on an international flight. I went on JAL domestic flights in Japan and that was a much better experience in every way, including free check-in luggage.

I would rather take a JAL economy flight than go on American Airlines again.

Comparing to Emirates, Qatar or Lufthansa American airlines are pure garbage. Try them and check the food and entertainment. Our airlines are better with peanuts and snacks bs here.

My experiences with American Airlines have been so bad, that I wouldn't fly them for free. The worst customer service, their flights are never on time so if you have a a connecting flight, good luck! If you enjoy having to sleep in the airport because of their mistakes, book a flight with AA.

I mean this is alright I guess.

I still think you get much better deals flying into Narita airport. I know it's not as convenient as Haneda but it's not hard taking the train where you need to go.

Paid $784 for roundtrip LAX to Narita on Singapore airlines for the holidays. It's not premium economy but I think Singapore Airlines is the better airline compared to American.

Last time I flew out of Narita back to US American Airlines overbooked our flight. Sucked we had to wait but they were able to put us in First Class for the next one haha

AA hasn't operated SFO to HND since the early 1990s. Perhaps you were thinking of United?

You get what you pay for. With this price you get a little more. Whether the opinion is a good deal or not, I'd much rather see a premium or business class fare over the usual BE fares posted here.

BE fares should be avoided at all costs unless you know 200% that you are going.
Domestic BE has gotten better, $99 to get a full refund. Used to be no refund/credit at all.

But international BE is still 0. Unless something has changed recently.

That's fine for you, but not for others. I'm always looking for a cheaper option, but I always have check in before and more coming back because of all the stuff I buy. Going on zip would cost me the same as a normal BE. After purchasing their luggage and food package. Lay flat would be a great cheap option, but it only flies into NRT. I flew 4x into NRT and it's fine, but it only took once to fly into HND to realize it's the way better option.

Also you described flying an international flight like it's a southwest flight. Which is already high anxiety during a Southwest flight. Others preferences would like to have seats already picked and not have to worry about that during an international flight. It's just preference and peace of mind.

Why does your post and post like it, bother you how and why people spend their money. Obviously people like this post enough that it's on the front page. Because if people didn't like it, there would be negative likes, and it would still be in the forums.
