The high price doesn't seem to reflect the quality (or lack thereof) of ingredients which are instead pretty cheap. I can only guess it's the limited availability and lack of overall interest. Most people know this is not too desirable unless you seek it out as a novelty item for whatever reason

This stuff is delicious but also banana milk is pretty easy to make at home and probably healthier too. Just blend together banana (not too ripe), milk, water, sugar, and pure/real vanilla extract (optional). You can play with the proportions to your liking. I skip the water and sugar altogether, and use whole milk because I like it rich and creamy but not overly sweet (the original is thinner/waterier consistency and way sweeter, almost cloyingly so).
