Overkill is right. 3mg is overkill. Personally I think the kid's version of 1mg is even a bit much, it's been shown that the sweet spot for external sources of melatonin to be around 0.5mg. I keep a 1mg version around that has small doses of L-theanine and GABA added, and it has helped with insomnia and getting restful sleep. Just don't use it as a crutch

Agreed. Purchased this last time it was posted on sale and after taking one, found myself extremely groggy hours after waking up the next day. No such issues with 3mg.

My sleep specialist says that the human body can only absorb so much melatonin, so much of the 10mg is going to simply pass through your system. 1mg is enough.

Agreed, would constantly wake up groggy with this. Capsules take longer to be effective so the rapid release seems like a lie considering how long it takes for me to feel drowsy
The half life of melatonin is 3-4hours. I'm betting many of you that feel groggy the next day from "it" are actually not getting enough sleep then blaming the melatonin.

Example. Take Melatonin at 10-11pm, go to bed around midnight, then get up at 6am for work and blame the melatonin.

10mg? Your brain is just going to not even bother making melatonin anymore if you take that much.

What brand? Got a link 👍🏽
Sundown 300mcg (same as 0.3mg) is my go to. Dosage is much closer to what the body naturally produces.

Currently out of stock but occasionally restocks on Amazon for ~$4 (120 tablets).

10mg is WAY too much and can put you at risk of your own body to stop producing melatonin if taking for a prolonged period of time, my Doctor has recommended 1mg or less for most people.

This write-up links to several research articles in Part 2 "What is the right dose of melatonin?".

The stand out was that 0.3mg (300mcg) had a higher efficacy compared to 3mg in insomniac subjects (Zhdanova et al 2001). Compared to no significant difference in non-insomniac subjects. Something to note, the sample size was only n=30.

Anecdotally I've tried the Sundown 300mcg (same as 0.3mg) and found it to be more effective than the >3mg in the drugstores. I only use it as needed. Plus you could always split a 1mg melatonin tablet in half.
