Is the pen performance on this good? like no wavy line stuff?

Also I think I read that the pen protocol is MPP so a surface pen would work with it?

Correct, it does not. I can confirm as I very recently purchased and got it price adjusted.

The BBY variant also doesn't come with the usb-c hub.

Both these are only available when purchased directly from HP.

I have done and continue to do a personal technical deep dive on this machine as I assess it amongst other contenders. If anybody has any questions that I could answer, please feel free to ask.

I would recommend asking here instead of a PM, so everyone can benefit .
I'll bite. Does the screen have any impact to real world office usage?

Can you clarify, what about the screen has an impact on office type work?

The 120hz? No, not much since it's mostly static and non-motion work. The 16:10 aspect ratio and the 3k screen does help as you can fit more on to your screen at any given moment, hence more productivity.

I was referring to the 120hz, the 3K screen in a 14" form factor, and the 500 nit brightness.

This or Lenovo Yoga 9i with similar specs? I am bit concerned with yoga's hinge reviews. Few of my office colleagues use this one as office laptop and I have heard good reviews about it. But I want to stick to Lenovo if it's better or both are really comparable in terms of build quality.

i mean read to stay away from these hp spec x360 due to sht hinges.. pretty sure every company makes trash hinges.. it's the best point of failure for companies to implement. esp for consumer grade trash

Yoga 9i - which model? I am looking for Yoga Pro 9i, hope it don't have hinge issues

They're WiFi adapters all suck
So, laptop hinges need at least 3 screws and a divit in the design to evenly balance the load of opening and closing. This is especially true with one-handed opening. The flagship consumer models from each manufacturer have all pretty much moved to a passably good 3 screw+ divit design in their 14" models. The Spectre 14, Pro 9i 14", Galaxy Book4 Pro 14, Zenbook 14 and Zepherus G14, Surface Laptop 7 13.8, and XPS 14 are all well enough built internally and mechanically. The best of these hinges are the Surface and the XPS. Both are extremely well designed hinges and a noticeable step up mechanically. The Zenbook 14 and G14 are next with slightly different but similarly well built hinges. The rest are all equally passable. The spectre has a stronger hinge than the 9i and the galaxy book but, because it is a 2in1, its stressors are higher. Likely, depending on individual usage, it would be the first to experience a catastrophic failure, particularly in the lid rather than the base. Currently, now that the rest of the industry isn't using such crap designs in their hinges specifically in flagships, the Macbook Pro and Air have the worst hinge designs mechanically for higher end models(yes, the air isn't technically a flagship by product line placement but it competes on price with other flagships). They use 2 screw designs but also use weaker screws than the typical stainless steel used by the rest of the industry for their hinges. They haven't ever had good hinges, but most others have been equally bad in the past so it hasn't really come up the same way. The one saving grace for their hinges is the way the casing is CNC'd around it. That part is well done and really strengthens back up an otherwise shoddy hinge to being "okay as long as long as it was properly fitted at the factory",

As far as wifi cards, make sure to download drivers directly from the wifi card manufacturer's website rather than any other source. Lenovo tends to ship with outdated drivers. It's always best to purchase computers with replaceable wifi cards, but I believe the spectre and g14 are the only ones among these that don't have them soldered down.

MPP = nTrig = wavy lines. It's an inherent flaw in the technology that cannot be corrected. You can work around it by rotating what you're drawing, living with higher smoothing, and/or drawing lines diagonal tot he digitizer grid faster, but you'll never get Wacom or Apple level of smoothness in all conditions. The pen performance, otherwise, is nice. And, yes, any MPP pen should work fine (I haven't tried my backup pens).

Really want to get this. Wish it had 32GB RAM, though. Browsers are so greedy these days.

browser currently using 6GB of ram and 40% of my cpu... it's almost like you need a "high end" pc to do casual things now a days. the mbp 14" m3pro 18GB was using 15GB ram doing fewer tasks than my desktop (returned it.. 18GB ram is just not enough for casual usage, imo.)

It's designed this way so you're not wasting RAM. Unless you notice a slow down (due to hitting the swap/page), I'd say let the kernel do its thing.

Bought an open box, but had to return it. The screen door effect was too noticeable. After the bio update it lessens the horizontals lines into to horizontal dots but still too much noticeable.
