Yep, that's why I have yet to pull the trigger on a MacBook Air. Give me 16 GB or heck, even 12 GB as a base, and I'll try it out. 8 GB is just sad for 2024, and super greedy of Apple.
i use downloadmoreram.com subscription. its great

Absolutely not ewaste. Perfectly fine for a web browsing machine that will likely still get updates and be perfectly usable for another five years. Not everyone needs a beast. I say this as someone with many high powered systems with tons of memory.

Yes. IMO Apple should move their base configuration to 16GB RAM but to call one with 8GB ewaste is ludicrous and leads me to believe you're likely cycling through systems often enough to be an ewaste contributor more than you'll be willing to admit to yourself
Lol. How many tabs do you think people want to have open on a "web browsing machine"?

You know that the number of tabs isn't the issue with memory constraints, right? It's extensions and JavaScript. You could load 100x raw html pages that have a 100 lines of text each on these and it would function fine and snappy or one page making 100s of giantass JS calls and it would tank along with nearly any other system including a i9 w 64gb of RAM.

In 2-3 years, there will be. iOS 19 will have the Ai goodies that need ram, and then they'll put more ram into the mac.
Or they'll do 10 or 12GB instead knowing Apple lol.

Don't expect "Geek Squad Certified Refurbished products [to be] thoroughly, painstakingly and lovingly tested. I got several items that were not and had to be returned. BB may have a thorough process but it's not followed.

Crazy how much we've regressed. I remember back in the day. 2007ish. Getting a 1tb hard drive and thinking it was awesome. Now we're jumping for a 512GB hat drive. Weird tbh.

Yes, JS heavy pages hog memory. Is this a unique insight?

Onetab, TooManyTabs, Auto Tab Discard are Chrome extensions one can use to keep memory usage down when browsing on a "web browsing machine". Chrome also has a native memory saver function in preferences. I'm sure Firefox has similar tools. No comment on the RAM debate. The prices are where they are because people buy these machines

These prices are not very good. I landed a Geek Squad Refurb 16" M1 Pro 16GB/1TB for $1099 last week. 100% battery health in mint condition with correct charger.

The M2 Air 8GB/256GB (which is what I traded in for $780) for $1039 is absurd. I got mine from a Swap website for $850 3 months ago.

Avoid this "deal" like the plague unless you want a M1 MacBook for a kid.

So many people say 8 GB is enough but I have a MacBook Pro with M2 Pro from my work with 32 GB. I have never seen it have less than 10GB in use and have seen over 20 GB in use. This is productivity software only. Outlook, Teams, Safari, Word, that type of stuff. No photo or video software. Just saying YMMV.

It's RAM bro. It will use how much ever is left else it will use swap. A faster processor can and SSD can swap work for many
