This is an absolutely beautiful classic. No shame in the base 5600.

Lots of options to dress it up in stainless, gold, etc for cheap.

There aren't too many better ways to spend $28.30. Squares are the best and most classic G-Shock watches. Just be aware that it's hard to own just one. Or two. Or even twenty.

You are correct, this is not one of their solar watches. If new, the battery should last about 2 years. This is very old school. Ok if you need a dependable, rugged, I don't care if the crown gets scratched up type of watch. I think I have around 2 of these sitting in my drawers. One is so old the watch band has completely disintegrated. I have since moved on to the smartwatch era. For about the same price you can pick up a reliable Amazfit Bip or some no-name Chinese smartwatch from Amazon. It won't be as rugged, but it will monitor such things as your heart rate, steps, sleep cycle, various sports activities, and so much more.

The non-G-Shock Casio F108WH (https://www.amazon.com/Casio-F108...0053HBJBE/) seems to have very similar appearance and features for 1/2 this sale price, direct from Amazon. Is the G-Shock really that much more durable to be worth the price difference?

Posting for the first time in ages just to affirm this. I now have nine G-Shocks.

As someone else mentioned, there are great mods for the square g-shock and unless you go used (or even if you do go used) this is about as cheap as you'll find for getting into the game. Add a metal band from aliexpress for about $40 and you'll have something that looks like a $400 metal G-Shock.

Even if you don't mod it, this is a great deal for a great, classic watch.
