A few reviewers said that the waterproof upper makes them more stiff than regular trainers so that would be the trade off.
For golf they are excellent. Unless you are playing in very wet conditions these will perform nearly as well as spiked.
Don't buy these as gym or casual shoes. They are stiffer, have a harder sole, and do not have good tread for walking on pavement.
If you buy these, I do recommend getting a waterproofing product to cover them with. After doing that I've been able to machine wash mine (even white pairs) and get all but the white mesh to look brand new with some Oxyclean white revive.
