I too was frustrated that no reasonably priced receivers come with preouts anymore. I decided to buy these and they convert the speaker out to line out. Works with no issues with my power amp. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...UTF8&psc=1

How big of an upgrade is this from the 595?

If you're going to purchase an old, obsolete receiver then why not go used? You should be able to get it for half this price.

Forces an additional unnecessary conversion (impedance). I'd just get a slightly more expensive (or used) AVR that has the pre-outs I want!

This is a 9 channel receiver so you could do 5.2.4 for Atmos or 7.2.2 or 9.2 if you wanted.

The 595 is only a 7 channel receiver.

If you need a 9 channel receiver with preouts and HDMI 2.1 ports then this Pioneer LX505 is what you're looking for.

This is the exact receiver I currently run in my HT set up in a 5.1.4 configuration. Admittedly, I am an Onkyo fan boy, been a loyal customer for at least 20 years now. Onkyo just gives you more for the same or less cost. Now since they've been bought by the chain gang, I don't know. But the RX 50 and 70 are the best bang for the buck receivers available from everyone, when on sale. This TX-NR797 is a good receiver and will work fine in any home theater, but it's getting old!

I bought mine a few years ago as an open box at Best Buy, pretty sure I paid about this price for it back then. If I was going to buy a new Onkyo today.... The RX50-70 is where I'd focus.
