Of course it depends on your needs, I don't think you need special shoes for regular walking, but if I picked from the list here, I would get the Launch or Ghost:

Launch 10 - Lighter / less cushion / lower stack height
Ghost 15 - Good all around mid stack, cushioning, weight
Ghost 15 GTX - Gortex waterproof version, if you live in the rain, good option

Ghost Max - Maximum cushion, would only consider if you don't walk at all, are heavy and are about beat your feet and joints up for the first time in a decade.

Budget options, a bit cheaper foams / materials used, but since they are the same price as Ghost during the sale, no reason to buy these:

Trace 3 - little more cushion
Revel 7 - little lighter, mid cushion

Fyi for wide width ppl - only 2E, no 4E

Wish Brooks did more in 4E, even if only it was just some more colors of the existing shoe styles. A couple come in grey or blue, but otherwise they only do All black and that gets old.

Ghost Max are max cushion, and they don't lack stability either. They have a feel similar to Nike Invincible 3, Saucony Triumph 22, and Asics Novablast. Great for recovery runs and heavier runners. Although they are not fast shoes, a bit bulky and heavy, they don't mind picking up the pace.

I would certainly not buy these for walking or daily use. Cushioning does feel nice, but they don't do your feet any favors long term. They WILL weaken the arches your feet, we were not designed to walk on marshmallows.
How is Ghost Max vs NB shoes like 1080v12 or Fresh foam More v4?

Supplement with inserts then?

Going thru checkout on Trace 3 showing at $99.95, the promo code hasn't changed the price. Anyone else?

Do any of these have a wide toe box similar to Altra shoes?
If they come in wide, yes. I recommend that you go to a running store such as roadrunner and atleast pay the premium once for a pair of shoes, which will let you get measured by their electronic system. It does a 3D scan and will give you your width measurements of each foot and you can be more informed buying the right size shoes going forward. Im sure someone will say to just return the shoes after that but it's a small price to pay once.

Unfortunate for me one foot is 2E and the other is 4E so I'm stuck getting 4E shoes going forward if I want good foot health.

No, your feet don't naturally need support or cushioning for walking around. Shoe companies want to sell you arch support and cushioning. The more time you spend using your actual foot muscles, the stronger they become. For daily use, unless you have an actual foot injury, the less support and cushioning the better. That's why the whole barefoot shoe thing exists, just enough sole to protect the bottom of your feet. Initially they do make for sore feet because we use muscles we have not used much in a long time. Like your first time lifting weights in a long time. They do become stronger and that is temporary.

Cushioning in my opinion is for running, where you are putting multiple times the force through your body for a long period of time. Or maybe if you don't walk much at all, and then go on vacation where you're going to be walking for 6 hours a day or something.

Short term, cushion and support is nice for daily
Long term, it is crippling the ability for your feet to remain or grow strong. Which leads to sore feet anytime you stress them, which leads back to thinking the answer is more cushion and support.

Just a note the discount is only showing up for one pair of shoes, not a second pair.

I do believe this is true especially for younger people. I'll add tho that my podiatrist (having gone there for a perpetual foot pain that developed) told me that as we age the natural cushioning on our feet and hands thins out. I walk barefoot everywhere within my house property lines and have done so all my life everywhere I've lived, so it was his opinion that that was the cause.

Wearing Hoka sandals indoors seems to be alleviating the issue.

Max is similar cushion-wise to fresh foam v4, more than 1080 v12. Hopefully you have a shoe store that sells them near you. Sometimes a shoe looks awesome on specs, and I try it on and just rubs me the wrong way or something.

Keep in mind, all of these max cushion shoes are pretty heavy and don't provide a ton of energy return, so while your joints and feet will thank you for the comfortable ride, they are slow and not much fun.

I'm around 200 and 6'4". Which shoe is a decent compromise of cushion and speed? I'm not running under 20 min 5K or anything, around 26-27 min.

Ghost for sure. I don't think you will find any better or equal at that price for a great all-around running shoe from any brand. Plus they have some colorways that will work for daily usage. They will certainly be happy running 26 minute 5ks!
