EOLed by Gl.inet, never getting Openwrt support.

Even if the price is good, the product isn't.

First part means = END OF LIFE'ed by the company. No more updates meaning it won't get the beautiful open source router firmware from OpenWRT which is famous.

Are you sure? On the product page here [gl-inet.com], it lists:
Quote :
Runs on OpenWrt 18.06
Opal presents a user-friendly interface for common users to set up the router with minimal inputs, and an extended customization experience for advanced users to install plug-ins and applications. Opal runs on customized OpenWrt 18.06, supporting more than 5,000 ready-made plug-ins for customization. Simply browse, install, and manage packages within Opal's Admin Panel.

This does run on OpenWrt, but it's GL-iNet's version with extra stuff added. You can read a discussion about it here: https://forum.gl-inet.com/t/gl-in...t/39143/31

There are a couple more years that GL-iNet is supporting this router in maintenance.

I actually own this router. I use it most tethering my phone when I'm traveling. There are regular firmware updates, but the older 3.x builds are much more stable on this router (though they have security issues/etc.) The newer builds are very flakey -- the tethering connection fails often and the router actually locks up for me occasionally.

I would recommend buying a different travel router because of the stability on newer firmware versions (I've had different problems with every 4.x firmware version on this.)

Don't all GL.inet run Openwrt? The product page says AdGuard Home, OpenVPN,... sound like a custom firmware.

Just used this last week on my 7 day Royal Caribbean cruise and it worked perfectly to connect multiple devices to their Starlink internet.

Whoops, wrong copy I guess, meant the listed router here and the GL.iNet GL-AR750S-Ext (Slate)? Is it worth upgrading?

Which travel router do you recommend?

The slate models have gigabit ethernet ports. Whether you need that is a different story
