Dumb question, but what's the purpose of a travel router? Does it connect to hotel wifi and provide extra security?

Yes, this travel router includes a firewall and DNS support. But the key benefit is that it counts as a single device when connecting to hotel or public Wi-Fi. If the hotel limits the number of devices or charges per device, this router bypasses that—you connect it once, then link all your other devices through it. Same idea works on airplanes that charge per connection. You pay for one connection and share it across all your devices.
