Too much CPU, not enough GPU. There will be a big time bottleneck because the gpu can't keep up with the cpu.

But since this is an Intel 14th gen i9, maybe the chip will chemically degrade itself in a few months and remove the bottleneck automatically.
What would be a gpu that's enough for this i9?

This is not a "big time bottleneck". It's only ~8%, which isn't that much and allows for more processor intensive functions, and this is assuming the user will run at 4k external monitor resolution. If they run on the laptop itself at the stated 1920x1080 FHD, it's barely over 1% bottleneck, which is damn good.

Reference this page for more, and more accurate, information regarding this computer and it's equipped components, and what bottleneck it will experience.

The link you provided says 7.8% GPU bottleneck for General Tasks. Not sure I'd call gaming a "General Task" though.

On the same website there is an option to change from "General Task" to "Graphic Card Intense Task". If you choose this option and keep the same parameters as your link, the result is 26.2% graphic card bottleneck.

Might not be a bottleneck for long:

Yeah but Intel also said that if you try to RMA it and get denied, just try RMAing it again šŸ˜‚

No, if you were previously denied before they announced the problem. They will be accepted now.

At my local Costco and saw this with the $300 off. Wondering if this is a a good deal at $1400. I am also looking at the Bestbuy cyber power 4070 super.

This is for my son and he likes to game and also do steam VR.
Thanks for any input.

We bought this laptop at list for my kids engineering classes ... and gaming of course. Laptop has significant lag and freezes while playing games. Even a game like rocket league. With these specs it should be running smooth. Updates didn't solve the prob either. At list price, not worth the time to figure out the performance issues. Whether it's hardware, MSI software, or just Win 11 causing issues. Just not into buying a $1700+ gaming laptop and having to "fix" it right out of the box, so we've boxed it back up and are returning it. Clearly, I don't recommend.
