Our family of four all got the 42L to use on a trip to Europe. Could not be happier. These fit the specs for most airlines for carry on luggage, fit perfectly in any position in the overhead storage on a plane. They open like a suitcase so it's easy to find things without having to shuffle through everything like a backpack. I also have the carry on suitcase that fits the airline specs, but with the handle & wheels these fit much less stuff than the North Face backpack. As long as you are fine with not having wheels, these are great. In Europe, with all the trains and subways, you are going to be carrying your luggage in your hands or on your back anyway

Checked AA, UA and Delta's carryon policy (9 in x 14 in x 22 in). 42L and 50L are both oversized. 32L barely makes it (22.7 in for length).

Good bag, I got the 42L as a carry on.
Note that it does not come with a cross shoulder sling strap, it is only either hide-away backpack straps or side carry handles

I used the 15% welcome code & got the 42L for local pickup at Dick's. The blue color is really nice and the bag is exactly what I was looking for!

Are the 42L and 50L sizes allowed as carry-ons on US airlines?

Nice! Does anyone know if the main compartment can be locked with a TSA approved lock?

excellent bag I have two. The waterpoofing gives the bag structure, but also triples the weight and reduces flexibility.

I also have a Mountain Hardware duffle with reduced water resistance, 1/3 the weight, rip-stop and much more portable.

If you need waterproof coating, pay the extra for the North Face. For most people I would recommend non-waterproof rip stop for the weight and flexibility.

Looking to get either the 71 or 95 as a checked bag for camping trips. Can the 71 fit a sleeping bag and 2 person tent? I wouldn't need to go up to the biggest size would I ?

The 42L is only 2 lbs 5 oz. The Cotopaxi allpa is 4 lbs 3 oz and the osprey Fairview is 3 lbs 7 oz. A Mountain Hardware Camp 4 45 is 1 lb 15.7 oz or a redeye 45 is 3 lbs 1.4 oz.

The largest bag is 66" linear. That's over most airline size limits of 62" for checked bags. However, it's a duffel, so they'll probably take it anyway. I have two Samsonite duffels that measure 61.5", they're stuffed to the brim at the moment, and they go as checked baggage without issue or measurement other than weight. They're currently holding over 40 lbs each as we cleared out a lot from our vacation condo to sell.
