Original game was from Sega Saturn console but remastered for Xbox family.
Not on sale or anything but cheap enough. Just wanted to post for fun b/c it was one of if not thee best beat'em up games of all time. There was no game like it when it was released in 1996 and i don't think there's any that surpasses this level of production value even in 2024. Its fighting system is pretty good even for modern day standards. I was trying to see if it was available for PC but sadly only xbox family.

It's the most detailed/complex beat'em up game that i know of w/ rpg elements like controlling stat upgrades on your character and several "arch types" to choose from. Complex fighting mechanics not just punch/kick/special; we're talking blocks, air combos, full screen explosions, giant beam fireballs, chip damage. Symphony-like soundtrack. Even has alternate storyline branches/endings to choose from. For replayability, it offers Arena mode to pvp (human or npc) with your favorite storyline characters even nonplayable ones from Story mode. (bosses, minor/major characters, cannon fodders, wild animals, elderly, etc.)

Storymode: 2 players local/ online
Arenamode: 4 local/ 12 players online

Looks like low budget was used to recreate 2011 trailer and cover, makes sense. Here's a link to the game's original intro w/ "legit" anime touch plus gameplay. I think in the game you can also choose original Saturn graphics or the remastered graphics.

This is a fun one! Lots of story and pretty in depth control scheme for a side scroller

One of my fave games on the Saturn. So many characters and so many paths to take to unlock different levels. Multiplayer is pretty wild and hilarious if you have a few friends to play with.

Coop is still 2 players only... but somehow they were willing to increase Arena mode from whatever it was before 4 or 6 players? to 12 players. Game supports online play now too

Owned it on Saturn, didn't like it.

Own it on Xbox, still don't like it.

Found it to be very tedious. Lots of talking and very repetitive combat.

How random, I just introduced this game to my 7 year old on Sega Saturn just a few days ago. I had no idea there was an Xbox port.

No go for PC huh? One of my fav games on Saturn since they never made a proper Golden Axe for Saturn aside the VS fighting game. I recall they made a sequel of some sort for a Nintendo portable (2DS?)

Is this the same game that was in that anime series Uncle from another world?

You might be referring to Gameboy advance which is older than 2DS; they made a semi sequal called Guardian heroes advance... Or was it Advance guardian heroes... It wasn't as great as original per reviews.

This brings back happy memories...Guardian Heroes and Darius Gaiden were the very first two games I bought when I bought my Sega Saturn at Toys R Us. I remember being amazed at the 2D graphics of this game and played the hell out of it.

Man I wish I had an Xbox now to play this again. Loved this game on Saturn, played and beat it hundreds of times. Somehow the memory went on the system so it would never save the characters I unlocked, and we still loved this

What exactly makes this 'remastered'? Updated sprites? resolution? Wondering if it's better to replay it on an emulator or xbox, thanks!
