It's not a new property. Over 5K reviews on google, so it's clear this property was renovated and they're passing it off as a "grand opening"
https://maps.app.urlhasbeenblocke...ohXWpUTBYA

A review from 3 years ago spells it out... they renovated the property, and did it while guests were staying.

It's pretty important to note that the hotel is having renovations done currently. The lobby is gorgeous but the rooms are very outdated. The employees at the hotel are great and do the best they can, but the hotel really shouldn't be operating right now. You can hear construction noise all through out the hotel and the pool and hot tub area is having renovations done right next to it that make it unsafe and unpleasant. Definitely not relaxing. Like everyone we work hard so we can go on vacation, so this was disappointing. We wasted our money, we could have easily booked somewhere else had we known there were renovations being done. Feeling very cheated.

It seems from the recent reviews the renovation did work, people generally like it now.

I just redeemed 5 free nights from chase boundless card going there in November, however they charged extra person fee for kids $100 bucks a night, works out to be additional $1000 for two kids
still debating if it's worth it or not

I was just there last month and I have to tell you half the beach line in Cancun is gone. I haven't been there in a while and was shocked at the beach line is gone and is taken over by seaweed.

I stay at a fairly nice resort also and they were trying to clean it up everyday to no avail.

I would advise to go to playa de carmen if you want to use the beach everyday.
Some areas are like that but I'm sure it's worse as they just had a hurricane roll through there about a month ago

In the spring of last year, we paid $500 for 3 nights at Moon Palace using their try and buy offer. It was offered through another family that had visited using Costco package.

There's inflation and then there's this. I think it was $2000 or so for 7 nights at that time during a holiday week. Seems with this renovation comes much higher prices. It was already a very nice resort.

Word. We are their livelihood considering they run on tourist money. In the US we are just another statistic or commodity.

There's an article recently saying they don't care anymore about that "code" to keep resorts off limit

Pretty sure any all inclusive would do that... since extra people means extra mouths to feed at ALL INCLUSIVE restaurants.
All-inclusive resorts make money on having loads of included shitty food and drinks (regardless of how dressed up they are). $100 in Cancun will pay for a family of 4 to eat all day OUTSIDE the hotel, but if you just want a landlocked cruise then sure spend $100/person/day on "amenities". Marriott/Starwood have many properties in Cancun without the resort fee.

Wow. They renovated a previously awesome place to be even more awesome. HOW DARE THEY. 🤦
