Thanks for pointing it out. Just ordered a second one and I don't really need mesh for my small place (-:

Sorry about that. Scratch what I said.
Setup your Main router completely.
Plug your child router using the wan port to the main router lan port.
Log into your main router web admin. Click on CA at the bottom right.
Click on Connectivity and CA Router setup. Click on both Add Wired and Add Wireless nodes buttons. Wait for the Add wireless button to re-enable then click Done adding Child Nodes. And then Apply.
Now the child node light should start flashing purple and turn into a mesh node when it urns blue.

This is really finicky but mines up and running again after a full reset.
I thought the reset button 5 times is what worked but I was wrong.
It also shows two nodes in the Linksys app.
Don't know how you found this. But this is the only method that works for me.

Can this turn off the 5ghz network to connect smart devices that only run on 2.4?
Trying to decide between 2 of these, the refurb set on woot for 80, (which may have better app options?) or used whw0303.

I have not found a way to revert back to the factory firmware yet. The dd-wrt seems functional however only the 2.4ghz wifi has been reliable for me. However, this being I think the 2nd or 3rd release is very promising. There is a txt file in that same folder note.txt which supposedly is from brainslayer himself "this is untested, need serial bootlog for finishing". This was mentioned on a reddit thread where they were talking a lot about a soon to be release pr of openwrt for this firmware.

From the dd-wrt website, under download, Betas factory-to-ddwrt.img 8/8/2024 r57793.

How are the speeds with dd wrt ? Also does it support VPN ?

Woah woah woah hang on. After you do this, you can unhook the Ethernet and place the child node wirelessly where you want? This is huge if true.

So this works wirelessly after setting it up with Ethernet?

These do support mesh.
Edit:
I posted the wrong setup procedure before.

This method worked successfully for me. Was able to setup a wireless mesh. This is my setup:
  1. Master Node: 1 x LN1301/MX4300
  2. Mesh Node: 1 x LN1301/MX4300
PS: This is with the factory shipped firmware, nothing was changed. Not sure if it matters but i have all three WiFi settings (2.4 GHz, 5 GHz1, 5GHz2) set the same.

Yes you can. After you unplug the ethernet the light will turn red briefly then back to blue after the WiFi connects.

This is unreal. Thank you for figuring that out. So basically everything stated prior has been debunked. This router does work in the Linksys app. The router does have mesh settings. This router can connect as a parent and a child node with a simple Ethernet cable. Wow. $20/$25 for a Wifi 6 AX4200 mesh router. Those of us who took the risk of picking this up are reaping the benefits.

I personally bought one of these and the $60 2pk mx8000 kit. Ln1301 as the parent and mx4200 from the kit are child nodes. They set up in the app without issue. These have drastically improved my wifi. Even the single node was one of the most powerful routers I've ever used.

I just bought 6 of these to replace my current dual-band mesh at my old house. Hoping these are a nice upgrade that can tide me over until I'm able to wire up Ethernet back haul throughout. But I think I'm most excited to play around with openwrt/dd-wrt on cheap routers for the first time in over a decade

How were you able to split the 2.4 and 5ghz. I do not see this setting at all. Ln1301
You have to click CA in the lower right hand corner when you log into the web interface. After that, you will all the option to configure your setting. Like other have said, it seems that Linksys cripples this router with a firmware. I am returning mine because I don't see an 80mhz. Mine shows as wifi ac instead of ax.

Yes no 80MHz , for ax set the wifi mode as mixed and see if you see the wifi 6 icon on your phone if it supports it.
