Yeah the problem was allegedly solved in drives manufactured after approximately September of 2023 with firmware version 3.2.F.66. I am not positive of the exact manufacture date, it is what I read and it did coincide with the manufacture date of the affected PC's within our company.

These drives are actually manufactured by a company called Biwin, They make the exact same drive for HP, Acer, Adata, Teamgroup and others using the InnoGrit IG5236 controller.

In my specific experience until a month ago I worked in the IT dept for a Fortune 500 company who deployed almost 100 HP computers that had the HP FX900 Pro drive which is the same drive as this one and we had a few that failed where the data simply disappeared. Turns out the ones that failed all had the older version of the firmware, it was simply the luck of the draw as to when they were manufactured.

Sadly, Biwin unlike some other manufacturers does not offer a tool to flash the firmware to a newer version, they chose to replace the defective drives through their RMA process.

All this took place at the beginning of 2024 and I'm not aware of any issues after that, the unaffected drives worked well, however while this is a decent deal, I would certainly immediately check the firmware version as soon as I got it. While these drives are very fast, you could be sitting on a ticking time bomb if you get one with old firmware on it.
This is TLC and the one in your link is QLC. So this one should be better.

If this came out 3 years ago, any chance they changed the design and use different components now?
From recent user posts it still uses Innogrit.

I bought the 4TB version of this in May or June of 2023. Slapped it in a ps5 with custom heat sink. Doesn't see nearly as much read/write as my pc's ssds, but did fill it to near full and delete/rewrite a lot of the data (games and, especially, video captures). Health is still graded as 100%. Zero issues. Not as fast as my newer ssds like the Lexmark nm790, but doesn't matter unless you're frequently moving a ton of video etc.

Ssds prices have stabilized, but still high versus the first half of 2023. I think there were a couple deals for the 4tb version of this drive for ~$180-190 back then. I paid ~$220 and the price continued to drop for a couple months after that.

B/C this site went from a deal site to a paid site.
i would avoid this for the controller alone as i don't think an updated firmware was ever released.

This seems like a good deal for TLC + real cache.

So, it comes with installed heatsink, but modern MBs have M.2 cover/heatsink builti nto the MB.

We just ripoff the builtin heatsink?
I just remove the MB one and use the preinstalled one if its good quality

What heat sink would you pair with this for a PS5 storage upgrade?

If i cloned my 500gb gaming drive to this, would all my games n saves still work? (would the new drive have a new letter designation?) my biggest concern is epic games...

is there any ssd you recommend getting? every time these threads come up there is always a esoteric flaw with them that nobody but a deep lore master such as yourself can notice it, e.g. that chip is bad from 3 years ago. theres no way anyone would know that by looking at reviews (my typical approach), so maybe its easier to just know what models are good and then we can check to see if they go on sale.

For something that competes with the Acer Predator GM7000 look for WD SN850X as the gold standard.
Alternatives are Samsung 990 Pro, Samsung 980 Pro. Maybe SK hynix Platinum P41, Solidigm P44 Pro.
Honestly too many manufacturers / models - Crucial, Corsair, MSI, Sabrent, etc. all make good NVMEs.
To narrow down the list make sure it has DRAM - use techpowerup to check the specifications.
And make sure the controller is WD, Samsung, Phison, or SK Hynix.

Excellent hierarchy and agree 100% to the answer anyway.
