You could try opening a new Metro account with an iPhone 11 (or any other free phone) and ordering another tablet. I have a feeling these are limited to two per account, so opening another account with another $75 line may work. The worst outcome is that you would be stuck with an iPhone 11 for which you paid $75. You can easily recover more than that by selling it next year or trading it in.

Anyone here willing to try this?
Not me! This is my third time this year. Although I've used different email addresses and user names, all the credit cards used are shared in the family. So there's a higher risk of having already being blacklisted. Besides I've got several iPhone 12 from an earlier deal (before the plan hike) that I'll use as trade-in devices next month on T-Mobile (hopefully they'll only drop off iPhone 11 from the best trade-in value list for Go5G+). I'll follow jabstep12 and wait for a full 24 hour period before trying again

What's the best way to handle canceling after a month? I read in the older thread that we can just turn Autopay off and not make any more payments. Are there any potential issues with this? I activated the tablet prior to receiving it. Thanks!

Just put the phone/tablet in a drawer and forget about canceling. Autopay is disabled by default. Unless you turn on auto pay, there is nothing to worry about canceling.

Or you can just port out the number to another carrier.
Or you can sell the number port out information on ebay for about $10.

And use the number to set up a new Google Voice number for the future

Or as it was stated in the other post below, never activate it.

I already did the activation on their website prior to receiving the tablet (so I could order another tablet). I'm assuming this means it has already been activated.

If I stop making payments, will the original phone I used to become a customer be locked by Metro and not allowed to be activated on another carrier later?

It was probably one day in between the second order and the attempted (first) third order
Failed again for me after 24 hours - on two different devices under two different networks. So I'm out of the game. Good luck to everyone who's trying to snatch more than 2!

No. They send you a verification code when you login to your account. So you must have one active line already that can receive text messages.

I believe for Metro, one hundred eighty (180) days must have passed since the device's activation date.
It doesn't matter if the phone is still active in the Metro service.
Activate, stop service after a month, connect it to your Wi-Fi and turn it off, put the phone in a drawer, take it out and turn it on after 6 months and make sure it's connected it to Wi-Fi, and it should be unlocked. Test with a non-Metro, non-T-Mo, non-T-Mo MVNO Sim card.
After all this time, when turned on and connected to your Wi-Fi, it'll probably do the software auto-updates and be ready for the new cell provider's Sim card.

Correction from the poster below:
Metro is now 365 days.
BUT the same process applies.

Does this apply to a phone that I brought to Metro doing BYOD? I just activated it 3 days ago, so does that mean that if I stop making payments, I cannot use it on another carrier for 365 days? Thanks

No, that's only for phones purchased from Metro-by-T-Mobile.
But as the poster above said those phones are now locked for a year, not 6 months.

A BYOD is considered your device not Metro's, so it's not locked.

I think they have limited 2 per account now. Doesn't matter what device or address you use. You could always create a new account with a different name and address and I bet that will work, but that is just too much hassle in addition to another $75 for a locked phone. I am okay with two tablets and one Moto Edge 2024. Spent a total of $115 and sold the first tablet that arrived yesterday within 4 hours for $120. So now I basically have a free locked Moto Edge 2024 and an A9+ that arrives today.
