And the Shure SM58 is the poor man's version of the SM7B.

For the average person -- this is an XLR mic, and you'll need equipment that takes that input. If you're fine with that, this style of mic is very directional -- compared to other casual computer mics that are more omnidirectional. In other words, you need to get up close to it -- but it's also very good at rejecting sound that's far away, such as noisy environments.
Aside from both being dynamic mics, SM58 and SM7B are totally different use cases

Used for about a year before upgrading to a Shure SM7B. When I upgraded, people barely noticed a difference. So this really is an incredible mic.

Wow, at this price why not?! I had an SM58 (maybe I had an SM57 too lol) and got rid of them a while ago just because I never used them. That'll probably be the case here too except it's always nice to have a vocal mic around "just in case"

Except for the people who cut the guts out of a SM58, pop it into a 3D printed SM7B enclosure, and it sounds about 90% the same. So no, not totally different use cases.

This is a great mic for the price.

I've modded mine as per https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdt8GCBKEHk and have been using them for work calls and podcasting. They're great.

I own three of these (maybe two now, I can't track one down atm). Getting two more. These are great mics especially if you run live sound and need a few extra cab mics or backup vocal mics.

Edit, only two left on amazon as of right this moment - was at 14 when I ordered a few minutes ago.

Anyone know if this is better than all of Behringer's other alternatives?

There are the 84C, 85S, 85A, and 75C that are all around the $14 range right now
I haven't used any exception the SL 85A myself so take this with a grain fo salt:

XM8500 = SM58 (the standard model for vocals)
SL 85S = SM58S (the standard model with a switch)
BA 85A = Beta 58A (the super cardiod model)
SL 84C = SM48 (the cheaper alternative to the SM58)
SL 75C = SM57 (the standard model for musical instruments)
SB 78C = Beta 87C (cardiod condenser model)

If anyone is curious I ordered a couple of the backordered XM8500 from Guitar Center and it took about a week for them to ship them. So this deal is still alive if you don't waiting a week or two to get the mics.
