Anybody who goes through a 200-pack of AA batteries before they leak really ought to consider switching to rechargeables.
The problem with NiMH rechargeable batteries is that they are 1.2V not 1.5v like alkaline batteries. Certain devices, particularly those that operate at radio frequencies, will not indicate a full charge with 1.2V NiMH batteries. Lithium batteries do operate at 1.5V, but they are generally much more expensive—at least the ones made in Japan/Korea that have decent mAH capacity.
Fake news, I've had Duracell from Costco leak after 1 year

I typically buy in bulk and distribute amongst friends. This is quite cheap but the yellow ones I got have longer life.

Our medical equipment requires the higher voltage of an alkaline. It's obnoxious.
