This is the best deal I've seen in a while.
It used to be common (a few years ago) to find them at this price on sale, but not in the last year or 2.
Even at $100, it's the best deal around these days usually, so at $90, it's even better.
Regarding shucking: No WD portable drive sold in the last 12 years that I've seen, (and I've seen thousands) has been shuckable to become a SATA drive, and this of course is no different.
Regarding SMR: all WD portables that I've seen since about 2018 or so are SMR. This one is definitely SMR.

"SMR drives are ok for mass storage workloads - write once, read only afterwards. Like for archives, backups, user media storage.
If you want to write constantly, delete, write again, overwrite, then SMR drives are not suitable. Continuous write workloads incur terrible performance consistency."
