If a person tightens properly these can be in the fridge horizontal.
I wouldn't trust leaving it horizontal in the fridge. Probably the only con to this is the height of it. Doesn't fit on our fridge shelf without lowering it. Other than that, I love it.

We lay it horizontal all the time and it has never leaked. It's one of the main reasons why I purchased it was because you could store it horizontally.

I have three, oldest 12+ years and no problems. Though I wouldn't trust my mother to tighten the lid w/o a leak!

Pouring boiling water into PLASTIC?
what do you think food processor bowls are made from? probably not a good idea to pour boiling water in glass either. it will burn your legs and feet when it shatters.

I'm assuming the concern is not whether the pitcher can handle it.
It's about the fact that chemicals leech out of plastic over a certain temp, and boiling water is definitely above that threshold.

As is dishwasher cleaning.

I loved this thing, but stopped using it for that reason, and bought a glass one instead.
I'm sorry your sentiment is just silly. arbitrary fear that plastic leaches and is unsafe with hot liquids is misplaced. there are a variety of plastics with different temperature tolerances and various possible chemicals. the primary fear people have is the popularization of BPA which is only present in certain plastics. Tristan is a very strong and chemically stable plastic intended for these uses.

dishwasher? you realize if chemicals do leech out they are rinsed away and no long present after washing and no longer leaching at lower temperature right?

anyway. if you have actual scientific data regarding the safety of Tristan plastic please share them with us. if not keep the fear mongering out of the thread and avoid risking misinformation.

right, boiling water in glass is very dangerous.... unless it's the right kind of glass.... kindof like using the right kind of plastic! am I right? LOL

GREAT product! I've got three 2 quart and a 1 quart and they fit perfectly in the fridge door, don't stain, and easy to clean by hand or in the dishwasher. Had mine almost 2 years and look like new, even with iced tea.

Though we don't use this specific pitcher, we have the 2-Quart Takeya cold brew pitcher that has the inner coffee grinds steeper. We've been using it regularly for the past 7 months and it's been great. Ordered in both Avocado and Raspberry from Amazon since they're both priced that same. Amazon is price matching the Raspberry color also.

I have a 1 qt of this and it's fine but the entire weight of the container and liquid is held up by some plastic threads in the lid. I don't think I'd trust it for a 2qt which would weigh up to 5 lbs when full
There is a silicon seal you dummy

Good deal at $10

Dropped one of these before 10 years ago and it cracked on the outer lid where the inner lid threads onto it, therefore not being able to be cleaned entirely or seal entirely

Thank you for the info. Do you ever use it to cold brew loose leaf tea?

I use loose leaf tea with boiling water. Don't see a reason why cold water won't work.

I have the cold brew which is just the basket and it never leaks. You over tightened or you didn't tighten well enough. Been using this for 3.5 years now horizontal in. my fridge

got mine yesterday. it's outstanding. very sturdy. great seal. I didn't realize there are two sets of seals and screws, one for the pour spout in the center of the colored lid and also the colored lid with L handle also unscrews from the clear body. I tested it on its side overnight filled with water and no leaks.

down side is that it is very tall. more than a wine bottle. I'd feel comfortable storing it on its side in the fridge however with that seal.
