I purchased this welder from the eBay seller in the link below back in March. They currently have it for $256 after coupons.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/166181451374

I'm a beginner, but my uncle has taught welding before and he was impressed by things like the duty cycle of the machine and the quality of the included gun for the $260 I paid.

The work clamp/lead leaves something to be desired, but it's something that's easy to upgrade/replace.

I have only used the flux core and not the MIG aspect of it since I don't have a tank yet. I've also not used the stick yet, but I'm glad it came with that anyway.

Yeswelder makes some pretty decent stuff. I've had one of their MIG setups for 4 years and been very happy with it.
It's similar to this one but without the aluminum compatibility and only 200 amp rated. It runs best on 220V and with shielding gas, but still runs on 110 V or flux core wire. No complaints on the stick function, either.

For a beginner would this one or the 205ds that does both 120/220 be better? What can this one do that the other can't?

I likely have the same one. Glad to hear it's working good for you. I'm very new at welding. My welds …suck. Not sure if it's the machine or me. If it's me…. I can improve…

Is it better than the one that Harbor Friend is selling?
Harbor Freight makes some decent welders. The HF welders have been tested by various YT channels and it has been verified that they actually put out the amps that they are rated for. The 225 amp stick welder in particular is a really good unit for the price, especially with a coupon.

The Yeswelder and similar import units are great and often times offer higher quality accessories (MIG gun, stinger, ground clamp) than what HF gives you.

My only complaint about import units like the Yeswelder is that they usually don't deliver on their advertised output. This unit is advertised as a 250 amp unit, but you will mostly likely only get around 180-200 amps out of it max.

Now, in the grand scheme of things, that really isn't a problem. Especially for the price you are paying. Most people will never need more than 180-200 amps at most, and most often you will be around the 80-150 amp range. I just wish that Yeswelder, Ssimder, Tooliom, Arccaptain, etc. were more honest with their advertising.

Not pretending to know any better, but some reviews mention it working on 110v (albeit not as well). Maybe they used an adapter or something?

You probably can use it with a 120v adapter. The problem is that this unit won't have settings for 120v use. So you really don't know what you are getting in terms of output when you set the display to a particular amperage or voltage. You'll pretty much be guessing at what settings to use.

Not the same device obviously, but I bought the FLUX-135PRO last year and I like it. It runs on a 110v outlet. Looks like it's $110 on Amazon or just over $100 on eBay with the 20% coupon. (I paid $140 1.5 years ago)

I have this and it will pull 30a at max output. It takes shielding gas and thick metal to run mig at 250a. For normal use, a 30a plug will totally work fine. I have welded a lot a 1/4 on my 30a generator plug.

I'm a noob. Just to be clear you can use flux core or a tank for MIG welding?

I have had this welder (250-Pro) over 2 years. Going back, i would have bought the 205ds. I have been doing steel only with it. I also have only welded with gas a few times with it. So it has been a flux core machine. Flux core with .035 wire can only weld up to 220a without bubbling. I wanted a machine that could do it all, but at the time i bought it, the 205ds was half the price. I dont regret getting the 250pro as it has done everything well, i just haven't taken advantage of any of the extra features or capacity it has over the 205ds.

i have put about 60lb of flux core through it and 10lb of mig wire. Runs like a champ and the synergistic settings are really easy to change on the fly.

i will be getting a spool gun eventually so i can weld aluminum. It will weld aluminum out of the box as it has the teflon liner and knurled roller wheel to feed the wire.

flux core is no gas bottle and solid wire requires gas.

Ordered the one for 256 on Ebay. Looks like it will come in handy for small projects.
