This is a good deal. I bought the touch screen version two weeks ago. It came promptly, and I liked it for what little I used it. I bought the grade A refurb and the laptop was definitely a bit beat (cosmetic only I thought), but I didn't care, it was a lot for cheap.

Unfortunately it kept crashing itself due to the thermal sensor reading "unsafely high temperatures", especially when plugged into the charger. Dell diagnostics ran fine, I contacted support, and after some effort learned I had a 100 day warranty on the refurb.

Currently waiting to hear a replacement has been sent my way as I still need the thing, I've already sent back my original unit. Whole process has delayed me getting a functional laptop by a few weeks already. Just fyi to anyone considering riding the Dell refurb train. Call "Dell Financial Services"/"Dell Refurbished" to initiate a claim. Live chat on their site was for new products and said mine was out of warranty.

*Update: Dell received my return, and apparently had no replacement units, so they just refunded me. Probably not going to bother rolling the dice again.

You should always check whether the corporate warranty was still active on it, as they are for many of these XX20 units. If so, you could have had onsite service to replace the motherboard or whatever else needed fixing.

These are generally good machines, and the are quite generous with their replacement policy. If you call and they don't have the same one in stock, if you ask nicely they often will give you a similar machine with as-good, or better specs.

Would the 7420 be good for a middle/high school kid? Video calls, homework, youtube/netflix, and maybe some Roblox.

Dell Latitude 7420 Notebook, 14-in FHD (1920 x 1080), Webcam, 1x Intel Core i5 Quad (i5-1145G7) 2.60 GHz, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD, No Optical, Intel Integrated Graphics, Backlit Keyboard, Windows 10 Professional
These were used at the corporate level so, yes, they'd more than suffice for a HS kid. Smilie

Don't they need the corporate IT team to make the request?
Nope, I just signed my laptops up under my own personal account and submitted a warranty claim over the phone. Had a tech come and replace a motherboard at my house. Smooth as butter.

Great deal. I got the 15" Latitude with 16gb of ram and 9th gen i7 for about $250. I bought a 16gb stick on prime day for $25. I run Docker containers, so I needed the extra memory. So it ended up being $275 with the 32bg of ram and 9th gen i7. So $25 more for an 11th gen i7 and a webcam is a great deal. I think the model I bought was built before the pandemic so like who used webcams back then. Haha. I got it for cheap, but still, it would have been nice to have a webcam because everyone does zoom now days.

Mine came in like new condition. It didn't have all the film that new laptops have, but whoever used it (I'm assuming it was a corporate lease) must have just quiet quit during the pandemic and not even taken it out of the laptop bag. Even the Intel stickers that they put on there that slowly wear with usage was pristine.
Most of these were docked permanently, is my guess. You should run HD sentinel to see the write-level and total power-on time. I have units that are pristine but were running for a good year, with decently used HDs. But that's perfectly fine for me for the price.

How's the screen on this?
Based on the Latitude 5420 spec sheet, either 250, 300, or 400 nits.

Unfortunately, I don't think there's any way to know ahead of time. Once it arrives you should be able to look up the original configuration with the serial number.

For future reference, does the amex $50 of $250 work on this? I noticed the site isnt dell.com, so I figured not.

I have the same question. Makes it even slicker, although the model specifically mentioned in this post isn't in stock anymore.

No more 32gb. A single 16gb module from Crucial (new) is $42.99, so the $449 units ($265 or so with tax) with 16gb are still a good deal if you don't mind installing the extra RAM yourself.

Hi...

Looks like these i7/32/512 models went OOS as of 8am yesterday. But they were back in stock with 24 available when I looked around 2pm. But by 5PM or so they were OOS again. If you are interested, I suggest checking again later today. Not sure why, but they seem to release stock in spurts.

Someone asked about a Touch Screen Model. They do have a deal on that, and its 50% off instead of 45% (no idea why). Details and sample config:

Code:

WOW5320DEAL

Dell Lattitude 5320 Touch

Intel Core i5-1145G7 (4-Core, 2.60 GHz)
16 GB (2x 8GB)
512 GB (1x 512 GB SSD)
64-bit Windows 10 Professional
13.3" FHD Touch (1920 x 1080)
Cosmetic Grade
A

This one is $499 so it would be $250 + tax with FS. No i7 models left at the moment.

Happy Hunting!

You dont even need to wait until the laptop arrives. As soon as the order ships, you can see the serial number of the device shipped on the invoice. Not that it changes anything but much faster than waiting until you receive the device.

Unless it's specifically mentioned, you can always assume 60hz. No reason for it to be mentioned unless it's outside of the norm.

Intel Iris Xe Graphics kills this for me. If you don't run MS-Windows, you may want to skip it too.
Hate touch screens. No thanks.
I like the 10K passmarks.
Love Dell laptop keyboards. I've been burned with bad keyboards by every other brand I've used except Dell and Lenovo. Lenovo was always too heavy.
1080p - nice.
14inch is a little larger than I'd like for travel. I prefer 13.3inch laptops that are sub-2 lbs. I see someone below posted a 13.3 inch Core i5 - I need to check that out! I've been without a usable laptop for a few years and travel is happening more and more. Sometimes a tablet isn't enough for my needs when traveling.
