Thanks op! This is nearly the lowest price ever without coupons according to the camel (258.40 is the lowest without coupons) and is about $100 less than it was when I wishlisted it Wink It's also cheaper than the smaller sized one currently - do note however that due to its capacity this unit can only cook a minimum of 1 cup of white rice (the other starts at 1/2 a cup as is shown in the bowl picture, for whatever reason they use the 5cup version's bowl for all pictures.) Upsides on this vs the smaller one even if you're never going to cook more than 5 cups is an extra inch or so of steamer room for dumplings and the like (the ability to steam and the flat top are the only differences between this and the previous induction version FWIW.)

Can someone explain the benefits of a $200+ rice/grain cooker over a $40 analog one?

In a nutshell they are the best and will make up for simple errors in addition to the timer function, but where they shine is they are able to keep the rice warm for an extended period (the IH ones vs non ih are less likely to dry out the rice as the heat comes from all around instead of just the bottom some people keep rice warm for 3 days, I draw the line at 48hrs with my nuro fuzzy) CNN did a rice cooker rundown a bit ago (they liked the neuro which my IH will be replacing.) https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp....ice-cooker

Basically, if you eat your rice immediately after cooking or put it all in the fridge there's no reason to pay more if you're happy with your rice, but once you do one of these (IH or non) you're not going to go back especially if you have a family that would eat from the machine for a day or two...
