I purchased my 700w model when I went off to school in 1989, and have used it nearly every day for 35 years. It probably takes 30 seconds longer to heat up my coffee than most folks' microwaves, but if I have to endure that terrible, terrible burden in exchange for an expected half century or so of use, so be it. Plus, as a bonus, I didn't have to buy 'retro' - it became retro all on its own!

I've used a 700wtt micro with my family for 20+ years. Works fine as it's mainly for heating left overs or quick meals for kids

I've got a 700w microwave - if I put a frozen meal in it for 15 minutes, I'll be needing a fire extinguisher and a new microwave. If it was taking you 15 minutes, your microwave was defective and was not putting out the advertised 700w. The standard they seem to use for time instructions is 1100W, so just add 50%. 4 minutes frozen meal should take no more than 6min.

People keep talking about heating up coffee, which isn't hard to do. Good luck with something like a frozen dinner. The 4 minutes it should take are going to turn into 12-15 minutes. I've had a low powered microwave before. It's nearly pointless. It's the same amount of time to cook something on the stove.
Microwave oven is for reheating food and popcorn. If you actually use your microwave to "cook" a meal, I feel sorry for whoever you are cooking for.

Get 1000w and be done with it. You'll only have to spend a couple shillings more.

Retro... as in 1950's?
This looks similar to the microwave that we had in the 60's. 😂

If that's true, then that's the answer. This isn't going to be great for those last-minute Stouffer's large lasagnas, but perfectly fine for basic reheating.

Be warned 0.7 cu.ft. means a normal popcorn bag will get stuck and become burnt, you'll have to get the mini bags, or just get a bigger microwave.

Sometimes when I reheat liquids like tea in a stovetop pot, it can boil over if you step away too long or get distracted. In this case, microwave is safer.

Microwaves used to be built to last 40 years. Now they are in the waste stream in 12 months.

Portable induction is much faster and more convenient for heating coffee tea beverages and soups.

Never a problem with my Nuwave PIC. I'm always distracted and refuse to be chained to a stove. Nothing burns boils over or gets over-cooked anymore. The thing is that an induction-optimized pot like Atlantis is required not just "induction-compatible". Once in a lifetime investment. It won't ever wear out. Unfortunately the market got flooded with cheap PIC's with poor temperature control and low durability. I'm going on 7 years with a Nuwave Titanium.

Portable induction is much faster and more convenient for heating coffee tea beverages and soups. It doesn't require tedious cleaning, it takes up far less shelf space and it is silent. I did need to invest in a 2 qt Atlantis covered sauce pot to achieve optimal results like holding water at 175 for brewing green tea and being able to keep warm and simmer. PIC saves $$$ on energy with the ability to fry in 12" pan. Rarely turn on the stove anymore even with cooking every meal from scratch.

So what about frozen foods? They will cook in the covered saucepan but Instant Pot is faster at 15 minutes. *The trick is to -dry- steam roast using the covered pot-in-pot method. Quality is improved with the even heating. Food stays warm without drying out until you are ready to eat it. Exposure to chemicals in plastic or paper packaging is eliminated. Effortless clean up, no sticking just rinse.

Microwave ovens are getting relegated to public spaces like break rooms. Studies have shown that they encourage unhealthy eating particularly when it comes to consuming excess sodium and excess quantities of highly processed food.
Dude this is way too much info I've never had a microwave stop working on me in my entire life.

Our last one got replaced because my 11yo forgot to put liquid in his Cup Noodles. Small fire and a smell that couldn't be purged.

Stuff may be more disposable now than ever, but no company would survive on a 1-year replacement cycle. The sweet spot seems to be 7-10 years for most appliances, compared to 30+ years in the prior generation. There's both good and bad in that.
