Good to keep at hand for the smoker as I go through the branches of a partially collapsed apple tree. With this tool I can chop the applewood without the need for a third hand (eg vise.)

I have this pruner and it's great. Has plenty of power and helped me make quick work of fallen tree branches after Beryl so that I can toss them in the bin for the garbage truck to pick up. It's like comparing an electric screwdriver to a manual screwdriver - you don't really need it, but it sure is a hand saver for bigger jobs. Great price if you can find it.

I have a nice set of long handled compound loppers. If I am pruning near max capacity of the tool, I've got about 160* angle on 28" handles. So I basically need my entire arm reach worth of space available inside the tree. To get that, I often need to do more pruning.

If my store wasn't an hour away and only reporting 1 available online I'd probably find a reason to shop in that area and try to snag it.
These are not for anything over about 3/4". Three years ago I bought a similar pruner on Amazon with two batteries and a hard case for $96 and I use the crap out of it. I'd never consider going back to a manual hand pruner. I also have the Ryobi telescoping lopper, it works great for branches up to 1.25", anything bigger and I use my pole chainsaw.

These are good if you struggle with regular pruners. I can normally cut anything small that 1/2" pretty easily. Anything bigger I'd use a mini chainsaw or handheld saw. The Ryobi mini chain saw can cut up to 3". Much more versatile.

I have had this one since before it was on the US market, my brother brought me one from Australia after he raved about it. Amazing tool crazy strong and way better than manual loppers. So many neighbors have picked these up after trying mine.
I've chewed through 1.5" stuff (takes multiple bites) with a good 4ah HP+ battery.

My experience with these was pretty negative, to the point I am not planning to get any more Ryobi tools in general and from HD in particular. YMMV.
I'll agree with you. When I was shopping for a pair last year, the specs vs price just didn't add up. I went ahead and got the DeWalt for $89 (cuts 1.25", and more powerful), and a battery adapter since I don't own any other DeWalt tools.

Maybe if these drop to like $49 or less, then they're worth picking up as long as you know what your're getting specs wise.

What's the advantage of this over manual pruners? I'm intrigued... We have a ton of pruning every year. Just didn't really understand the application of a power tool here.....
Day and night difference, in terms of hand fatigue. I have both this pruner and the Dewalt one. They are a hand saver. HOWEVER ( all caps for a good reason ), be extra careful with your other hand. Keep that hand far away from the pruner. Watching the pruner slice off a 1" limb with ease makes it scary enough to imagine if fingers got too close. Be super careful when using these so you are not distracted.

I have both and the Dewalt is just a bit preferred in my book. That's because it can handle a bit bigger limb. Both are useful.

For anyone in the Ypsilanti, MI area, there are 2 more in the lockup in aisle 66 at the Carpenter road store as of 8 pm tonight. Price is clearly marked on the display ($69).
