If you had lived during the golden age of the Vikings or the Mongols you'd think nations prosper as result of pillaging and violence against the innocents; and being peaceful and civilized is why nations fail.

It's not a simple general question that applies to all nations.

It's odd that people don't understand the concentration of wealth into the hands of a very small number of people is a problem.

What is it about Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk that expecting them to pay a fair amount of tax immediately evokes the 'Marxism' bit? Why are you willing to kill the middle class to save these guys a few bucks they won't even miss?
Because it isn't about wanting them (or not) to pay more. It's because of many more important issues:

1- what's a fair share? That's an arbitrary term that could mean one thing today and a different thing tomorrow.

2- you will need to tax their assets, especially stocks, which they already pay tax on when they're issued to them; meaning, you'll be taxing them and any other stock owner 3 times: when issued, while holding, and when sold for gains.

3- government spending is in the trillions annually so even if all the billionaires paid their entire wealth, it wouldn't cover 1 year of spending.

4- there's a good reason why the first thing a business does to reduce its "deficit" is by reducing expenses, not increasing revenue, since your expenses are what got you here in the first place.

5- wasted government spending is far more costly and problematic than billionaires paying more taxes so it would be much more effective to fix.

Yep…taking more money from the rich is only an attempt to the rectify the poor spending habits of the government. The true problem lies in the fact the government has a credit card with a limit that exceeds what they knew they'd be able to pay back, despite knowing that they go ahead and max that out…now they want someone else to pay it. Crazy stuff…. Regardless, per Wharton and the US Treasury themselves we are headed to a point in which no amount of taxation will be able to solve the problem if spending patterns do not change!

The US federal deficits have grown larger under Republican administrations than Democratic.

Don't fall for the grift again.

"Blinder and Watson reported that budget deficits tended to be smaller under Democrats, at 2.1% potential GDP versus 2.8% potential GDP for Republicans, a difference of about 0.7 of a percentage point. They wrote that higher budget deficits should theoretically have boosted the economy more for Republicans, and therefore cannot explain the greater GDP growth under Democrats.[1]

Since 1981, federal budget deficits have increased under Republican presidents Reagan, both Bushes and Trump, while deficits have declined under Democratic presidents Clinton and Obama. The economy ran surpluses during Clinton's last four fiscal years, the first surpluses since 1969. The deficit was projected to decline sharply in Joe Biden's first fiscal year"

Google for yourself. Plenty of research available in this area, including Republican administrations being in office for 10 out of the last 10 recessions.

Yes, the government needs to cut spending in many areas. You just may have the parties reversed. The party that wants "smaller government" wants to cut any regulations that cost corporations money to keep getting themselves rich. Thats the difference. Its not for the benefit of the country, or cutting the deficit. Its for growing the wealth of the 1% and keeping them in power.

Yeah, that's not the main issue. That says that somebody didn't do their job or some of the laws might need to be revised as the economy changes.

However, Nationalizing everything means nobody but the government would have any real disposable income.

Increasing revenue and cutting down expenses are not mutually exclusive. You need both just like in a household.

At no point has anyone come remotely close to suggesting everything should be nationalized.

On the other hand, the uber wealthy who want to profit even further want to eradicate all public services in favor of privatized, for- profit companies that they'll profit from and control.

There's your communism, just that instead of a government it'll be a handful of rich people. The founding fathers warned about this.
