Description calls it a "visual novel" describes gameplay and says "Use your trusty notepad to jot down information and clues that will prove useful to solve cryptic puzzles."
From online users It's "not exactly a puzzle solving game" but has "98% plot and 2% romance" and "great writing in the sense that overall the writing is entertaining" as well as character writing, but goes particularly bad in the last part of the game. They also said you'd have to suspend disbelief to fully enjoy it.
So it seems like a mystery visual novel game with romantic undertones and "stupid-fun" writing that focuses on characters and falls or at least stumbles at the end, in terms of plot.

Super awesome deal! Probably in anticipation for the sequel. Overall a good game with an interesting plot. It does get dark. Beautiful art and audio. Would recommend.

I remember this having an insanely high metacritic score a while back purely off the fact that most critics tend not to review visual novels. The only reviews that did come in were obviously from fans of the visual novel genre that would give it positive reviews.
