Also, the Cashback gets credited to the account after your order ships, not after you receive it. I made a mistake.
Trade-in initiated: Aug 14
Estimated delivery: Sep 17 - Sep 24
Fine print: Phones sent for trade-in must be received within 30 days of initiation of trade-in process
It seems that there is no guarantee that the quoted value will remain if I trade in after shipment arrives.

Maybe I've never really embraced the trend of flagship phones costing above $650. I know I know, I'm stuck in the past.
$700+ phones... just feels like...a lot...you know. For a phone.

What would you get better by spending that much of additional money, especially keeping in mind that Google store credit is not exactly cash? The improvements between pixel 9 and pixel 8 are marginal at best. Slightly better screen. Slightly better cameras, slightly more RAM and a slightly, actually very slightly, better chip.
Wait for the Pixel 10, and hang on to the pixel 8 because you still get 7 years of support. Personally can't see the value in putting almost $300 for the upgrade.
Also, for folks that are heavy AI users, having a year of Gemini premium ($240) to use in the interim included is a good perk.
The spec bumps also include an ultrasonic fingerprint reader and faster charging. A 33% RAM bump is rather significant, and T4 should improve battery life and heat efficiency.
At $300 you can make a case the included AI premium, specs, and improved TIV are worth it.
