I just traded in my iphone 14 Pro for a Pixel 9 Pro XL awaiting same delivery to the store - even trade. My logic is as follows:
- Iphone 14 pro is 2 years old, no warranty, and I could probably NET (after fees and shipping) about $525-$550. Swappa + Paypal + shipping eats about 20% of your sales price. The best price on SellCell is $576 for a mint iphone 14 pro. ALL of these prices will go down in a month with the launch of the iphone 16 pro.
- I want a bigger screen
- I'm not married to Apple. I've switched between OS for 15 years, it's no biggie.
- I'm with TMO on the grandfathered from Sprint on SWAC. TMO offered me $830 for a trade to the iphone 15 pro or pro max a couple of months ago, so I doubt TMO will offer me more after the iphone 16 launch. So with the iphone pro prices going up, I'd be stuck with a minimum of $1099 - $830 = $269/24mo = $11+ per month for the next 2 years paying off that iphone. And that's for basically the same size screen.
- If I just kept my iphone 14 pro, I wouldn't have any payments either, but it will keep depreciating, I may be looking at a battery replacement in a year and obviously there's no warranty.
Just thinking out loud.I would have kept the iPhone 14 for another year and gone for the Pixel 10 series or the iPhone 17, which is supposed to be a major redesign, but if you want a larger display, might as well YOLO and enjoy the Pixel XL.

There's no guarantee these ridiculously high trade in values will be offered next year for the pixel 10 and who knows what will be offered for the iphone 16 let alone the 17. That's why I pulled the trigger now. I can probably sell the pixel 9 pro XL for the same value as a mint Iphone 14 pro in a few months if I don't like it and be back in my same position, less the $200 for the Best Buy gift card. I still come out ahead.

Just thinking out loud.I have seen a lot of confusion about store credit and from what I have read the $200 promotional credit expires 1 year after it is issued. Device trade in and Google 1 credits don't expire. Once earned, they accrue like gift cards on your account.
Additionally, the credits won't be issued until 24h after your order ships. You'll get a separate email confirmation when it is available. At that point, the 1 year expiration clock will start on your promo credit.
My order won't ship until mid September, which gives me an extra month to hopefully hit the P10 pre-order window next year.
I would recommend canceling or reverting to a lower G1 sub tier only after you receive the credit confirmation email. If you ordered a P9P, it activates with a free year of the AI Premium 2TB plan ($240) and extends Gemini Advanced to all of your devices.

is this a good time to pick up the Pixel 9 pro now or will there be better offers around Black Friday in Nov?
So this time around they are giving really good trade-in value for their own old phones, including Pixel 8 Pro phone for 128GB storage they are offering $700.
If you wait till BF, the phone price would definitely go down, by at least 100 or 150 or maybe up to $200 of currently value, but, at the same time I don't think they will give this much trade-in value for as they are giving it now, so overall it would be same difference.
is already out of stock all colors and options 🥲 at Google store much better with google one and all cashbacks vs bestbuy
Trade-in Pixel 8 $490
Google store credit $200
Military ID.Me $100
Google One 10% store credit $90
----------
$880
Pixel 9 Pro $1000
minus $880 = $120 plus $75 (tax) = $195
I'm happy Pixel8 upgrade to Pixel9 Pro
