If you're looking to buy a P9, definitely do so at Best Buy over Google store:

1. BB GC has more flexibility vs. Google Store credit
2. BB will deduct taxes off your trade = more saving
3. Trade instore = no headache vs. send in trade to Google's 3rd party
4. Easy return/replacement should there be some defects. Google CS is horrid.

Check the trade in values against the Google Store. Best Buy has a better trade in for the 6a but Google a better one for the 8.

Though a $100 Best Buy gift card is better for most people than a $100 Google Store credit, so that's a factor too.

Question for those buying the metro phones for $99– How do you trade it into best buy for this deal if Best Buy doesn't show metro as one of the trade in options and the phone doesn't come immediately unlocked?
The store rep taking the trade-in only looks at the make and model, not the carrier. This was discussed at length in the "iPhone 11 $415 trade-in toward Pixel 8 at Best Buy" SlickDeals post in late July, and it was consistent with my experience when doing that deal.

Yup, that's always an option if you want to spend the extra money on a number. I didn't want to waste anymore money on this. Glad you got it.

Eh, $3 is a rounding error in this deal. My time is worth more.

Grabbed the last iPhone 12 for $99 at my local Metro store, and added it to the Metro account created 3 weeks ago during the slick "Apple iPhone 11 $415 trade-in toward Pixel 8 at Best Buy" deal.

Here are the Pixel 9/iPhone 12 details for anyone interested:

NEW IPHONE 12 FROM METRO TO TRADE IN: ~$198
  • $99.99 - iPhone 12 64GB, promo w/ported number to Flex Plus plan
  • $55.12 - sales tax on original $629.99 price
  • $30.00 - 1st month add'l device on Flex Plus account (normally $35)
  • $12.83 - prorated 10 days in current billing cycle
  • SUBTOTAL = $197.94
PIXEL 9 128GB FROM BEST BUY: ~$70 (NOT INCL. $100 GIFT CARD)
  • $799.00 - Pixel 9 128GB, unlocked, no carrier plan
  • $69.91 - sales tax on original $799 price
  • ($799) - trade-in credit for iPhone 12
  • SUBTOTAL = $69.91
SUMMARY/NET COST FOR PIXEL 9 128GB: ~$168
  • $69.91 - Pixel 9 128GB
  • $197.94 - cost of trade-in device (iPhone 12)
  • ($100) - Best Buy Gift Card
  • TOTAL = $167.85

Note 1: I chose to pick up the Pixel 9 in-store (scheduled for next week). Despite the BB site stating that the trade-in would need to be mailed in, once the order was completed the receipt's trade-in instructions state to bring it into the store at the time of pickup.

Note 2: YMMV regarding how much your Metro store will charge for the iPhone 12. The first store I went to wanted to charge a $25 activation fee (which I expected), plus an additional $80 for a BS "essential package" that included 3 months of insurance, a screen protector, and a case. With a quote of over $300, I said "no thanks" and went to a second location. That one only sold Android devices, so my third stop was at the former "corporate" store, where they didn't charge an activation fee; the only "extra" was a $4 insurance charge for the first month. I got the last device on the shelf, which had been opened so the rep waived that $4 fee, and also knocked $5 off the plan's first month charge. In a nutshell, this deal may not be as slick if all of your local Metro stores engage in shady upsell tactics.
Is it unlocked 12? From Metro? I think we have to be on line for couple of months right?

Hi guys, I just wanted to complete my order; however, at checkout, I noticed that the trade-in price for my iPhone 12 is -$145, not -$799 as shown on the previous screen. Is this can be correct?

I agree that Best Buy reps are generally pretty easy-going about it. But there have been people who occasionally had trades rejected if the carrier info didn't match what they specified when placing the order. Here's one example from the 7 thread …

https://slickdeals.net/f/16195612-best-buy-trade-in-offer-128gb-google-pixel-7-unlocked-smartphone-39-after-apple-iphone-xr-device-trade-in-free-curbside-pickup?v=1&p=159789586&src=SiteSearch#post159789586

Again, I'm not saying this would typically be a big concern, but just a possibility to be aware of.

I just ordered this Pixel 9 but I just chose black for a trade-on color however the phone I purchased for trade-in is actually blue. Is this going to be a problem? Do I need to call or email or contact Best Buy beforehand? This is for in-store pickup.

Thanks!

Yes, as mentioned, the 12 is from Metro. It is not unlocked...and doesn't need to be to qualify for the trade-in. And no, you don't need to be with Metro for "a couple of months"; you can end service after the first month. Note that the phone can't be unlocked until 365 days after it was initially activated, but that's irrelevant if you're going to trade it in.

It's probably not usually a concern unless you happen to get one of those reps who's a stickler for every little detail. Those are usually pretty few and far between, but there are some out there. You could do a chat and see if a BB rep says it's OK. If they say it's fine, you could then pull them in to help if you have any issues at the store (keep screenshots). Or the chat reps might even be able to adjust your trade specifics in your order if you tell them the selection you meant to make.

iphone 12 from metro is probably best bet, goes in and out of stock. steps:
1. Get a google voice number: https://voice.google.com/
2. Set pin and unlock phone number for port $3. https://support.google.com/voice/...NA#xferout
3. purchase the iphone 12 from metro, port in. sign up for $70 plan https://www.metrobyt-mobile.com/c...-iphone-12
4. purchase pixel 9, trade in select t-mobile black iphone 12, 64gb. good condition.

Profit. Out of pocket ~$230 +- and a free $100 giftcard.

For me, I will sell my pixel 9 for 300 after fees and shipping. walk away net positive.
Are you doing the trade-in through shipping or in-store? I'm worried they'll reject it because it isn't 'T-Mobile' as selected.

Bought a refurbished iphone12 from Walmart for $244 inclusive of taxes for a trade in for pixel 9. Not as slick as the metro iPhone deal, but didn't want to go through the hassle of porting number and any issues with Metro.

Fair enough. Though my experience with these two iPhones--the 11 and the 12--has been that an IMEI search on the popular websites didn't reveal the carrier, nor did a search by MPN (which just translated to a common, country-specific part number "Axxxx").

That said, in an abundance of caution when selecting among BB's options, I made sure to choose the "T-Mobile" model with the same color and memory capacity as my "Metro by T-Mobile" devices.

its pre paid, you dont have to cancel anything if you are trading it in to best buy. Automatically auto pay is off when you create a new account so just leave it off and then you wont pay next months bill or any other bill for that matter.
