M3 Pro sacrifices GPU over M2 Pro for better battery efficiency. Memory bandwidth effect is over exaggerated.

M3 Pro has marginally better CPU in return. M3 Pro's pros are dynamic caching and ray tracing. Former no one has a clue. Latter is completely useless unless you do 3D art for a living (in which case you should go to the Max series in the first place).

In that aspect, M2 Pro and M3 Pro aren't worth the price difference. OS updates are going to have similar lifespans too as both were released in 2023.

M3 Pro has 18 GB ram instead of M2 pro 16 GB ram, and M3 Pro is more battery efficient. Whether that is worth an extra is up to you. M2 Pro is already very battery efficient relative to M1 Pro due to difference in number of efficiency cores.

M3 was an upgrade on regular M3 and M3 Max. The pro is more or less the same as previous pro.

Costco had it at a lower cost on clearance when it was available. All sold now, and for a while. It had go to low as $1200, but that was very hard to find. So not the lowest but $1400 is a good deal for this and in some ways it's better than the M3 Pro equivalent.

The Costco one was very YMMV.
And yes agreed. M3 Pro is still $200-300 more expensive.

Would you mind sharing how the M2 Pro is better than the M3 Pro equivalent "in some ways"?

They do IF there is a micro center near your BestBuy, if you don't live near a micro center they may tell you no.

Case in point my local Best Buy where I live, which is 40 miles away from Micro Center. They said no but the Best Buy near Micro Center did allow it.

Depending on spec, M2 Pro can have up to 2 more performance cores than M3 Pro. THIS spec is 6 performance cores, but it is still one more performance core compared to the base M3 Pro (5 performance cores). The M2 Pro would be modestly faster in some tasks that use only performance cores, such as many DAWs like logic. Otherwise, it would probably be difficult to see any real world difference.

That's right, that's the M4... a second there I thought Apple was a normal company.

I know for the M3 generation they massively upgraded the Max processor and made minimal upgrades to the Pro. Perhaps that's what they're talking about.
