M3 Pro sacrifices GPU over M2 Pro for better battery efficiency. Memory bandwidth effect is over exaggerated.

M3 Pro has marginally better CPU in return. M3 Pro's pros are dynamic caching and ray tracing. Former no one has a clue. Latter is completely useless unless you do 3D art for a living (in which case you should go to the Max series in the first place).

In that aspect, M2 Pro and M3 Pro aren't worth the price difference. OS updates are going to have similar lifespans too as both were released in 2023.

M3 Pro has 18 GB ram instead of M2 pro 16 GB ram, and M3 Pro is more battery efficient. Whether that is worth an extra is up to you. M2 Pro is already very battery efficient relative to M1 Pro due to difference in number of efficiency cores.

M3 was an upgrade on regular M3 and M3 Max. The pro is more or less the same as previous pro.

As someone already stated, this was a major clearance YMMV, and Costco doesn't sell this model anymore. So what's your point?

I also purchased this for $1,200 at Costco earlier this year. That was a unicorn deal, one of the best MacBook Pro deals I've ever seen. It was also very YMMV. This $1,400 price is a very good deal for a great computer. As for why the M2 Pro might be better in some respects, please see this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F...p9A&t=126s

The memory bandwidth on the M3 Pro is slower, and the entry level M3 Pro with 18 GB of unified memory has fewer performance cores than the M2 Pro with 16 GB of unified memory. The video above goes into more detail on these and other points.

Thanks for posting all the great laptop deals OP. Cheers

This or the m3 air 16/512 for $1250 ($150 less)? Also bought the M3 for $1250 on Florida tax free weekend so it's really like $270 less out the door. Buying this for coding Bootcamp and to use for coding in the future.

Thankfully! Don't need to baby sit the screens for burn ins.
The current mini LED screens are the best of both worlds- can keep them in with a static image overnight and otoh they have excellent contrast ratios.

They do IF there is a micro center near your BestBuy, if you don't live near a micro center they may tell you no.

Case in point my local Best Buy where I live, which is 40 miles away from Micro Center. They said no but the Best Buy near Micro Center did allow it.
How near is near? Is 5 hours driving considered near?

how much heavier and bulkier is the 16"?

surely the bigger screen is more beautiful but is it worth it

guess depends how much you travel or move this around, if just at one spot at home larger is better

Also curious about this as I was ready to pull the trigger on the m3 air 16/512 at Costco.

~1.3lb difference. Not only is the screen bigger, the audio system is better and the battery life (and possibly thermals) is a bit better on 16". If you plan to have this docked a lot with external displays and speakers (or travel constantly), I personally would go 14".

That's what I've been doing for quite some time, using a USB-C dock w/ external display and bluetooth keyboard/trackpad. Took the upgrade to the Studio Display last year and it works so great with the 14" MBP!
