I bought this last month to stick in some of my SATA drives and it only worked on the 1TB. It didn't work on the 4TB, 12TB, or 14TB (WD & HGST & Seagate). I know for sure the 12TB & 14TB have the power disable feature which I know some enclosures won't work. I had to buy an ORICO instead and it works on all my drives and read/write speeds are faster too.

Bad idea for desktop drives. Even with the lid detached the drive overheats.

I bought this last month to stick in some of my SATA drives and it only worked on the 1TB. It didn't work on the 4TB, 12TB, or 14TB (WD & HGST & Seagate). I know for sure the 12TB & 14TB have the power disable feature which I know some enclosures won't work. I had to buy an ORICO instead and it works on all my drives and read/write speeds are faster too.

Yea its a hot box, need to rig up some kind of fan solution.

I got one in August 2023, and I had to do a firmware update to get it to recognize 12TB drives

I wouldn't, I wanted one, but research gave me pause.

Something about the dual drives, in their customer reviews, they all amount to a concerning amount of people reporting they corrupted their drives.

Not just the risk during cloning, but when simply mounted as well.

I think a single drive per USB interface is safest practice.

Yes as others have said if the drive is sata and not encrypted . That being said probably overkill for what you want to do this one has an external power supply which you really don't need for a small laptop drive. I use this for drives I intend to recycle after recovery:

You could also simply open up a computer that has a sata port, like a desktop, set the drive in there hook it up, and reboot. Then you should be able to map the drive and access it. No need for this if you have a desktop Tower that you know how to open an access and use...
