90% of morons on this thread will ruin the deal by asking dumb questions to Best Buy and possibly altering them to check trade in phone in details. Just keep your mouth shut when you go there to pick up the phone

What's the catch? Stay with them for 2 years plan? Credit is distributed evenly through contract term?

There isn't much change. Fundamentally Tenser chips have poor efficiency and bad thermals. Which seems to be true of the Tensor G4, given it's just an iterative upgrade. The modem seems to be newer, so maybe the connectivity is slightly better, but won't know for sure until the full reviews.

Regardless, the Pixel 9 won't suddenly be as snappy as Samsung or OnePlus, forget about even comparing it to an iPhone which is the leader in speed.

Maybe things will change with Pixel 10 and TSMC based processor. But then you can't count on Google to get things right the first time. Everyone thought the Pixel 6 with a new Tensor would be a game changer. It was actually quite the opposite.

I have always loved Nexus and Pixel phones. It used to be that Google were new to hardware. But now Google has been doing phones for more than a decade. If it hasn't caught up to Samsung and Apple by now , it is safe to say, it never will.

This is clearly reflected in the precipitous drop in Pixel values with time.
When you consider the Chip industry landscape, decade is not a big time period to make things change. Other than Apple no other company was able to offer a competitive option against Qualcomm, Samsung being such a big company tried exynos and gave up. Apple was able to do as it has walled garden customer base and deep pockets.

I'm trying to source an iPhone, and the biggest difficulty is finding one which matches one of the Model #'s in best buy's list. Does anyone know the source of truth? . I ask because for example, Best Buy shows Apple - iPhone 12 Pro 5G 128GB (T-Mobile), Model: MGLN3LL/A SKU: 6418429.

However, this site [everymac.com] shows MGLN3LL/A it as "Unlocked and sim free",and same with this site [techwalls.com] shows it as "United States – Unlocked SIM-free from Apple Store"

It would be much less risky if I knew as long as I had *any* iPhone Pro 128GB, I'll get the credit.
BB shows same model MGLN3LL/A for my Verizon 12 pro tradein as well. with their messed up naming, I have to assume any iPhone 12 pro with same color/storage has to qualify. to be safer, I am gonna look for a Verizon model first.

You're correct that Google tries to get Apple users to switch to Pixel by giving higher trade-in values for iPhones. But you missed the point that smokarz was making.
"iPhone 14 trade in value is $799 for Pixel 9, But trade in value is only $590 for Pixel 9 Pro". The same iPhone 14 gets $799 trade-in value when applying toward a plain Pixel 9 which costs $799, but gets only $590 when applying toward a Pixel 9 Pro which costs $999.
They are likely going with likely upgrade path most customers would do (assumption based on screen size and features like Camera etc) and offering higher trade in values with that path:
- IP12/13/14 --> P9
- IP 12/13/14Pro --> P9 Pro
- IP 12/13/14Pro max --> P9 Pro XL

That doesn't explain my situation lol I'm trading in an iPhone 14 Pro. They're offering only $680 for it for the 9 pro, but $1100 for it for the 9 pro XL

Companies often do this with trade-ins, where the more expensive phone you buy, the higher the trade in value on the same phone. Very annoying.

Can someone comment if you need to have the IMEI of the device you're trading in during the Best Buy checkout process?

Agreed, I sourced an "unlocked" iPhone, but there's no guarantee that it will match BB's listed model numbers. In addition, since BB's model numbers all correspond to the unlocked versions, but that isn't an option (only Verizon, etc.) it makes even more complicated!

Exactly. Also, timing up procuring a phone first (to know exact model) with waiting for P9 Pro to go back in stock. Does anyone know if you can order and change the trade in model later if needed?

BB won't care, just make sure it's the correct color and maybe storage

Any way to search for model number for a particular phone using IMEI? Purchasing a phone and I know the IMEI, but not the model number.

That's not a safe assumption. The more rejection the better for their business, so they will likely do any option to find a reason to reject.
Why would they do a promotion like this just to find a reason to get out of the deal?
If they don't accept my trade-in, I'm returning the Pixel.

Although, I do agree, it may not be a safe assumption 😄
