What's with these down votes from almost every person making a comment? Is this marantz deal or model not good? Commenting out of curiousity

I got a warning for putting a "thumbs down" on all of the one sentence "I'm excited to get this" or "I love this" or "this looks cool" comments in this thread.

It's a good deal, not crazy. I think the downvotes come from one line responses or bad info. There is great information on some of the comments.

It's mainly because people like to go by a single factor of all this as proof of good or bad/poor.
They believe like a religion and believe it applies or should apply to everyone!

You throw the price of the difference into the mix and it becomes exponentially more complicated!

This is a good deal if you know you want Marantz and ok with refurbished from them.
If you're just looking for this so called best bang for your buck receiver, it not such a great deal.

During my research I was able to audition those 3 with in my setup.

Here is my take on those.
In short if you don't have a brand preference the 3800 is really hard to beat for the price.

If you're gonna rely on internal power then the 4800 is probably the better choice.

If you prefer Marantz's warmer sound the 50 is great at this price.

I went with the 3800 but if this was for a new one definitely would have considered it.
Thanks for the info. I'm currently on an aging 4800CI without any external amp so dropping down to the 3800 does concern me a little bit, though my speakers are insane power hogs either. Like I said, I wish the C50 was just a little cheaper case I generally do like the Marantz sound profile a bit more but like when I bought the 4800CI it was the same story - tough to justify the price difference Smilie

I know exactly what you mean.
I came from a x4400h and could never justify Marantz extra cost either.

Even more so wanting Dirac, big cost difference before it came down to these mid level options.

Audyssey made it even less likely since they kept upping the ante making that difference much much smaller!

Now again couldn't justify C50 so wanted to stay with 4 series with Denon.
The difference just wasn't there for me with external amps.
Tried all three with 3/5/9 amps, even with just 3 the difference was very small.

Got the 3800 at $1k + DL/DLBC combo for $560! Using it as a pre-pro nothing comes close to that performance imo.

I will say got a 2nd chance at the 50 with both DL/DLBC, it's a very good match!!!

If you like Marantz and have a decent setup and ok with refurb, that's a lot of value at this price imo.

Decent deal
This is where the pricing should be, or less in my opinion, considering the value

The 305 offers 9 channels, Dirac Live for much less.
Apparently some people have had many issues with the 305(look at the current Integra thread) and has no pre outs.

If Dirac is the draw with the 305.
The 60 can take advantage of Audyssey One EVO which can give similar DL results.

Here is a comparison of the two.

Just picked up the AV10 from this deal! Saved a TON. Wasn't planning to buy the av10, as I wanted the 7706. But the price seemed worth it.

As long as you're ok paying Marantz prices, here are the Denon equivalents.

Marantz Cinema 70S = Denon 1800
https://www.zkelectronics.com/com...vr-x1800h/
In this case, the newer 1800 is slightly more powerful than the 70S. However, the combination of the 7.2 pre-outs w/the slim form factor on the Marantz is difficult to pass up!

Again, the Marantz has the 7.2 pre-outs but the 2 AVRs are very similar.

I assume you folks already know which Denons the Cinema 50, 40, 30 follow.... Wink

If you have easy to drive 8 ohm speakers or room is small, then the 305 is a no-brainer (especially if you use external amps). However, it's when driving low impedance speakers and/or long distances that the 305 starts to get challenged.

If you want to compare apples to apples, it's the Cinema 60 vs the Integra DRX3.4. The Pioneer is usually much cheaper than the Marantz.

Will the stereo 70s be a noticable difference in sound quality from my current Yamaha RX6VA?. I have both Infinity R263 towers and JBL Studio 530.

Looks like mostly an even trade w/a potential loss of power in the newer Marantz!
