Here's a detailed review of the light: https://zeroair.org/2024/08/09/so...mp-review/

Here's the summary from the review: "Sofirn is good at making headlamps, so it's no surprise that this one is good. I really like the warm white emitters – 5000K and high CRI seems like a nice sweet spot. It's nice that the red output gets the full host of (5) output levels. The user interface is simple and familiar and USB-C charging works great. All of that for around $35; this is a deal!"

Pros: Good build quality

Low cost

Nice implementation of red emitters

Neutral emitters have all 5 modes

High CRI, neutral emitters

Cons:

Low CRI main emitter

Doesn't hit output claims (actual output 1570 lumens on turbo)

Usual morning... waking up, buying a flashlight, brushing teeth...

Thanks OP (sort of). Recently got the dual-head-light HS20 which I love. This one seems similar, just all emitters in a single head, and adding some red light which I don't use much. Good price though incl battery, too hard to resist.

Added a bike holder to get past the free shipping threshold, something I actually needed/wanted anyway.

Love headlights except for the fact that if you're out in the woods/backyard insects start to kamikaze your face.

I've done streamlight, zebra, wurkkos, and sofirn. The Wurkkos and Sofirn are right at the sweet spot of price & quality for me. Some of the off Amazon brand lights I've tried aren't worth the $5 or $10 saved for me.
If a brand doesn't list what emitter a light has, thats a no go for me. You should try Convoy next, they have very customizable emitters while wurkkos and sofirn only have 1 or 2 to offer. Sofirn and wurkkos still are best value for money imho, but convoy is slightly more expensive and a lot people think they are the king of budget lights!

Huge Convoy fan myself. Simon now has a website. Here's a link to a great headlamp: https://convoylight.com/products/...7-56442423

Why can't flashlight companies make a shoulder strap? Having a flashlight on your forehead is just goofy.
A right-angle light is actually what you want then. Don't use the head strap, use the included clip to attach to the front of your torso.

there are quite a few non-sofirn headlights on sale, does anyone have any experience/opinion on those?

Multiple times a year walmart has energizer headlamps on clearance for great prices. They are nothing special, but the build quality is on par with these sofirn/wurkkos lights and for $5-10 on sale why not.

So much more legit that wurkkos and Sofirn. At least Simon doesn't engage is questionable marketing practices and has great customer service.

Was probably 2018 or 2019, whenever sofirn first started really making a name for themselves they sent me a message on reddit asking me to review (positive) their flashlights in exchange for getting them for free.

I would say that Convoy is aimed more at flashlight enthusiasts than an average consumer than wurkkos or sofirn, and Simon is absolutely fantastic to deal with since he is very much invested in the success of his own company. Terry from Wurkkos is also quite responsive, so is their CS on their website, but they are a larger company and Simon is a national treasure lol.

That said, I had 3 Convoy lights and 7 Wurkkos, and 3 Sofirn lights. Wurkkos has been offering USB C charging for cheaper than Convoy, and Convoy has been offering outdated anduril 1.0 option instead 2.0. Sofirn has been kicking it out of the park lately too, look at their LT1 lantern and how they listen to the community. Also adding 519a emitters in some lights, and 70.3hi as well on the SC33.

I'm glad all of these players are releasing amazing budget lights. Yes, we can criticize marketing practices but the products are actually some of the best for the money. It's not like maxamps of rc LiPo batteries where the product is subpar and they sell it for insane price.

Just got the Wurkkos TS23 with that XHP70.3 emitter. It's a beast, but I wish they wouldn't overstate their lumen numbers as much (ex SC33 claims 5200 but only has about 3400 for 30sec, then 1900, accd to zeroair). Also wish they would outfit them with Anduril 2 already. Having 15 flashlights with different UI's isn't that much fun. Big Grin EEK!

I have this and brought it to a camping festival. Everyone said that it was too bright and forced me to use a cheap gas station head lamp. Works great for work but I guess its too bright for social activities.

Aren't you able to use low or moonlight modes that output less than 100 lumens?

A great alternative I've found is the thrunite archer mini, which has a clip to put on a ball cap. It's 20$ on Amazon now but pretty regularly goes on sale for 10. It's revolutionized night-time dog walking for me and survived a lot of drops.
