I'd say the largest definer in that will be if you have a factory tweeter location. If you have to cut your own hole/mount the tweet cleanly somewhere, it adds significant time and skill to not butcher it. If you're not up for that, then stick with a coaxial speaker versus this component set.

I got these for $58 shipped last year (the link below, sold out, was for JBL 629 coaxial speakers but Woot sent me the 609c instead).
https://slickdeals.net/f/17118025-jbl-gto-series-629-premium-6-5-coaxial-car-speakers-57-95

They sound great, I had an installer put them in while doing some other upgrades at the same time. One of the JBL tweeters was blown within a week. I don't know whose fault that was (I won't rule out myself - maxed out treble EQ and played at high volume) and brought it back to the installer who had more durable tweeters they recommended available for $10 each (I upgraded both as a precaution). He did remark that the blown JBL tweeter was "a tiny little thing". Been great since December. Just an anecdote, take it for what it's worth.

I purchased these off Amazon for $74 in 9/23. I waited a few months to install when I discovered one of the tweeters was DOA. It was too late to return and I already completed the install on one side of my car. It was cheaper to order another set for $64 in 3/24 than to get a replacement tweeter. I think the price reflects the quality control issues with these speakers. Now that they are both working, I wouldn't buy these again unless I was also getting a separate amplifier to drive them. I think head units alone don't have enough power for component speakers.

FYI the the tweeters I replaced the JBLs with are listed on my receipt as "NB1" and I believe are the same as these which are listed here (and Walmart) at only $12 (I paid $20):
https://www.amazon.com/Power-Acou...B00009W5KJ

My head unit is a Pioneer with 50W x 4 channel output and is doing all the work. The front JBLs are paired in the rear with the DS18 EXL-SQ6.9
https://www.amazon.com/DS18-EXL-S...B00SGVXBY2
I hadn't heard of that brand and went with them b/c I decided I wasn't going to buy an amp or sub so I didn't feel the need to cheap out on the rear speakers and they were the most expensive 6x9s the store had in stock ($140 in my case) and the store guy said they'd sound good. Not sophisticated reasoning, but everything sounds really good and I'm happy.

An additional subwoofer would require another amp and would constitute a good amount of wiring. Usually goes from battery thru firewall, under trim and seats to the back of the vehicle. Someone could do it lazily and not have to pull out the interior but it wouldn't be a clean install as you would have wires running through your cabin. It's easily a 3-4hr job for a tidy sub install. I usually tell people it's not usually worth it unless they have an old vehicle with atrocious sounds and for me it's not worth it unless you do it yourself. A full audio install can be costly in labor.
Great response and thank you so much for the valuable info! My daily car is a basic older Nissan Versa with sound that is abysmal. Looking to get this set and add something to increase the bass. What do you think of those under the seat subs and is that an easier install?

Anyone looking to get this should look into installing a small amp with it. There aren't many stock headunits that would push 75 watts RMS. Under powering the speakers is a good way to blow em out real fast.

So what is that thing in the picture? Is it not an amp? If it is an amp it's not actually included?

It's the crossover, distributes highs to the tweets and mids/lows to the 6.5s. Not an amplifier.

It's not an amp, it's a "crossover" which is part of "component" speakers such as those being sold here (as opposed to "coaxial" speakers). I never heard of them until last year - see the below article for an explanation but I quoted the gist of it here:
https://soundcertified.com/compon...fferences/
Coaxial speakers normally use a simple high-pass crossover only for the tweeter to block bass and none for the woofer. The result is overall good sound but with room for improvement. Component speakers, however, use a more advanced crossover design that filters unwanted sound frequencies from reaching the woofer or tweeter. The result is less distortion, more accurate sound, and a better listening experience.

This is very solid advice. And a common reason for blowing out speakers

Any sub that isn't already wired in from the factory will need an aftermarket amp. Putting in new coaxial speakers wherever the stock ones are and adding a head unit will be the biggest difference in sound. If you check your speaker sizes by googling if they're at least a couple 6.5s you will still have pretty good bass from them given you add an aftermarket stereo that has a good wattage. Both of those things can be done relatively easily with an afternoon and some youtube videos. Check out install videos for your car ahead of time to see if its something you would feel comfortable with. The only new wiring you would have to do for that is splicing your head unit with a new wiring harness. Some people will try to tell you that you have to solder them but as long as you make sure they're connected well and you don't leave them exposed you're golden. A little shrink wrap insulation works perfectly fine.

I'm surprised to hear that, under powering speakers is what blows them out? I have a Silverado with some kickers I installed myself but I never added a speaker amp, is that easy to do?

If you don't want to blow speakers, don't turn volume up over 3/4. Past that and most head units start sending a distorted signal. When EQing try to keep the over-all at 0. +2 on treble -2 somewhere else. If all are + just turn the volume up.

It's inaccurate, clipped signals blow speakers not low wattage. The misconception people have is, oh my aftermarket speakers blew using my stock radio, when infact the stock radio is just sending a very shitty signal for the very shitty factory speakers. I have an old tube amp pushing 8 watts to a pair of very power hungry B&W speakers they've been running strong for 7 years.

I have been planning to replace the speakers on my Subaru outback for a while now( they are atrocious). Does anyone know if they would work i.e fit in the spaces, driven by the head unit
